The wife of barrister Mark Saunders said:

“From the day Mark died I have been committed to ensuring that the circumstances of his death should be subjected to a thorough and independent investigation.”

And who is to blame here?

In the months and years before he was shot dead by police, Mr Saunders sought professional help from doctors, therapists and psychiatrists for his drink problem.

They agreed the only possible cure was total abstinence, but his gregarious nature and sociable working culture made this impossible.

Consultant psychiatrist Dr Alessia Ciani said Mr Saunders’ drinking had been “out of control” since 2004.

Outside work he enjoyed game and clay pigeon shooting, which led to him buying his Beretta silver pigeon 12-bore shotgun.

So why didn’t his wife and those that knew this bloke best contact the police and tell them that he had a history of alcohol abuse and had a shotgun licence?

Sorry Mrs Saunders – I feel for your loss but you had a duty of care to yourself, your family, your husband and the general public and you should have taken steps to get your husband’s shotgun licence and guns taken off him.

Yep! In my book anyone who has a gun whether licensed or not is a moron.

The only exception is the army and even then at a stretch – I don’t believe in war but the human race is not intelligent enough to realise they can sort disputes out without resorting to killing each other.

Until that day, the human race has no right to claim superiority over other life forms.
