Never in a million years did I think I would go on a JC meet but a few years ago I thought I’d take the plunge. The dread, expectation and excitement was a whole new experience for me. My son insisted on escorting me to the hotel where we were all to meet, he stayed for a couple of drinks and deemed it safe to leave me alone with all these strangers (I honestly thought he was a lot brighter than that)!

After all the introductions and my feet had found the ground after angeldust had lifted me up in a bear hug, which I found quite comforting in a strange way, we all settled down and it was great to put faces to names on a screen.

As will always happen some bonded better with some more than others, however, we really did all get on and as we all headed out on a pub crawl for the evening there was great deal of laughter and drink of course. Later in the evening we came across a nice friendly bloke who had had a good day on the horses and was pleased to join us. We were all a bit reluctant to tell him the purpose of our group gathering for fear he might think we were nutters. As he generously bought us all a drink with his ample winnings he sheepishly said “You lot are a group of swingers arent you”? LovelyLady promptly checked her car keys were still in her bag and set him straight.

I did form some firm friendships from that meet and I’d probably never do it again but Ive never laughed so much in my life. Some may knock the meets and I was a bit reluctant but I’m glad I did it and hope there are many more fun meets in the future for others to enjoy.
