I really listen to this man. I think he actually thinks about what happens in the world rather than just him and his. They all seem to be thinking about the survival of there own rather than the people. This is all very disgusting. There is no need for it. The world can work all this out. Well we could if there was less egos. We as people should stop this, but we wont, were far to afraid of loosing our houses cars, fire sides and coco. We have to learn from history. We have to learn that we wont be murderd, marched like Jews in to a new world order. Like Theresa may, would like us to .I would also be fighting for my last breath if there was a nuclear war. Onley I would not be doing it in a shelter. So what is the answer?

    There is no answer.

May I also recommend not wasting your time even attempting to look for the answer which doesn’t exist. That’s how I see it anyway x

Of course. Our survival instinct is greater than any instinct we have. We learnt 150 years ago from Darwin, Survival of the fittest (though I don’t think he actually used those words, they came a little later)

far to afraid of loosing our houses cars, fire sides and coco.

Yes, of course we are. Survival. Who wants to live in a cave? Who says ” No I don’t want electricity and hot water on tap?”

Enjoy your life with your nearest and dearest as best you can with the time you have left.

Fk everybody else, thats what most others are all doing anyway.

Other than your nearest and dearest, few give a fk about you.

Sorry if I’m being too blunt.

I’ll have a go, I am not that familiar with Chomsky (I have read parts of one book) and so can’t really comment in depth on what he says in particular. I do however think the current political and economic systems (in the West) are heading for a serious meltdown if they do not evolve rapidly and later in tune with automation. Brexit and Trump are two recent prime examples, Italy another, although that outcome isn’t clear yet. The rise of “populism” has given the political establishment a kick up the backside but they still don’t appear to be listening. The bullsh*t and propoganda churned out by the pro EU ruling liberal class being a prime example of a greedy self entitled class that puts its fingers in its ears and chants la la la.

The corporatist EU with its neo liberal agenda, enforced austerity and mass economic migration has failed, what replaces it remains to be seen.

Consumerism has made the West docile and reliant on crap it doesn’t need and that is a big problem on a planet with finite resources.

Oh come on,i bet if I had a university degree you would be gipping at the chomp to go for me. You are insulting my intelligence because I’m an alcoholic and I haven’t been to university. Fuck off.

I don’t give a toss who or what you are. You seemed a bit perplexed and overwhelmed by it all, and I thought I’d try to answer your question as you appealed for posts.

I think it’s important to just re-iterate in these love and peace type, why can’t we all love each other debates and questions, that we are animals, primates and mammals. We are very intelligent animals, the most intelligent of animals. Yet, as animals, we are still savage, brutal beasts by nature. Lions kill each other, gorillas kill each other, humans kill each other. Especially when our survival comes under fire. That’s the way the world is. That’s the way your God made it. None of us can change that primeval ordained order. You are not God.

    Live your life accordingly.

    Jamie,

I’ve been a fan of Chomsky since my early 20s, when I read a book of his called American Power and the New Mandarins. He’s never just followed the pack.

He’s a linguistic philosopher, and I once tried reading a book on the revolution he led in linguistics, but i couldn’t make head or tail of it then, and I don’t think I’sd be able to make head or tail of it now.

I once saw him in an interview talking about his youth checking out the different politics on offer in New York City, and how he chose anarchism because of its stress on free thinking, and its rejection of the university elitism whihc alienates you. He has no time for university liberals who just say what they think will please the people who promote them.

He opposed Brexit as a disaster for the UK. He believes that the UK will become a total satellite of  the US because of the power balance in the world. Much more thoughtful than some of the so-called radicals in this country, but being thoughtful is the thing which sets him apart and makes him so interesting. Good if you listen to him..

I wouldn’t worry about not going to university. The university people I’ve met aren’t as intelligent as they crack themselves up to be, though some are. Alcohol doesn’t help discussion, though, but you know that. Just be true to yourself. You won’t go too far wrong then.

perplexed and overwhelmed? lol. Ain’t we all if we’re honest?

I would answer your fatalistic analysis of human nature but within a couple of hours I’m offline for several days. Morgan, I suggest that you read Kropotkin’s Mutual Aid,the book which inspired Chomsky’s view of human beings. I apologise for not being able to say much more at the moment – I don’t fully agree with Kropotkin – but your view isn’t as clearly obvious as you seem to think it is. Nobody can deny an element of truth to it, but human beings are a bit more complex than the jungle war ideas of Konrad Lorenz which were popular a long time ago.

Again, sorry I can’t answer you for a few days. If I remember I’ll chase up this thread when I get back and read it. I don’t like your views, but at least you present them seriously.
