Take the number of states in the United States, multiply by the number of lives a cat is supposed to have, divide by the Roman numeral X, and subtract the number of cents in a U.S quarter. Just to clarify…this quiz was written in roughly 1992 so monetary terms may have changed so well accept a near answer if one has a decent explanation. LOL

    Misterq……

Ha ha. Song, “Partridge family…think I love you….”

    Got one think…right….

    46.55…….

    52 states x 9 years cat life, divide by 10 and 25 cents in a quarter, subtract….

Can you clarify there are 52 states Linda? I always thought it was 50?

    Misterq.

For you, yes..Hawaii and Puerto Rico added on. Forgot year..

And cents is a penny. 25 pennies in a quarter. Our change value never changes. Neither does our 1.00 except when used outside our Country

    Sorry, Linda,

    there are only 50 states.

Hawaii was the 50th state, added in 1959.

Puerto Rico is still a territory, not a state

I make 20 as the answer, Mr Q, worked out in a few seconds so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it were wrong.

Shows the importance of checking information though as especially with general knowledge, many things can change over periods of time. This is why, especially on T.V quiz shows, the presenter will often state the rules of what will be accepted in the answer…..for instance..Countdown words have to be accepted in the dictionary. If it’s not there….no points. Many things in the world change more today than ever

I worked it out as 20 as well. But i allowed Linda the benefit of the doubt as she is American and bound to know more than me perhaps on the subject.

The actual answer in the book is 20 so in 1992 the author or compiler of the quiz thought it but that was 25 years ago.
