I think a suitable alternative should be found for the NHS,,,,No Hope Society perhaps. I received a letter on Friday, telling me that my appointment for this Wednesday, the 9th, had been cancelled, ”due to unforseen circumstances” My new appointment was given as November 12th!!!

Having tried all day on Friday to get through to the appointments department with no luck, it either rang off the hook, or it was engaged. I decided yesterday morning to drive to the hospital. There I was met with miss attitude personified and told that the only way I could get the appointment changed was to speak to one of the Breast Cancer care nurses and they could give their authority to change it.

I went to see one of the nurses, well known to me by now. She was very apologetic, said they had been inundated with calls from patients like myself, who had had their appointments cancelled and given appointments for 7 months time!. She also told me that the Breast Cancer clinic had been cut by half! and the first they’d heard about it was when they started to get panicked telephone calls. It seems that the management, yea you know those clip board carrying, suit wearing morons, have decided in order for the hospital to save money, they have decided that this is one of the clinics in particular that should be cut. I expect it won’t be too long then, that the success and lives that have been saved by a fast diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer will now be short lived

What do the suits care,,,,,,,,,not them is it

I thought everyone being seen for cancer stuff had to be seen within 3 months ?
Write to your MP i would. They are always saying what a great job they are doing. if you write they have to reply and all its going to cost you is a stamp, remember they work for us and not the other way around !

That’s the NHS for ya. My Mum has worked in the Xray department for over 30 years
and shes hanging on by a thread, because of the cut backs. Totally agree though
the cancer clinic, should be the last place to do cut backs. Poxy country this is. Cas You wanna demand an earlier appointment!! :(

I agree with Chickenman, get your local MP involved, and maybe write a letter to your local paper too exposing this. It may not do much good but it’ll make you feel better getting the anger out your system.

    Good luck.

I did kinda kick off a little ,,,,,,, but the upshot of it all was that I got a call this afternoon, to say that I had an appointment this evening at 6 o/c to see my consultant.

Fortunately he said he didn’t think it was anything further to worry about, he’s going to organise a scan just to be certain, but he’s pretty confident it hasn’t returned. I have to say o course, that it made me feel a lot better.

The local MP has been fighting to keep the A and E department at the hospital open, if it closes there’s only going to be the one, Queens in Romford with an A & E, and they can’t handle the input they get now. I do intend though, to email, or write to her, making her aware of the cut backs in the cancer dept, I do feel that it’s outrageous, and not acceptable at all, it’s playing with peoples lives.

its taken nearly 4yrs for them to hopefully fingers, legs, toes, anything cross’d..!!! to fiallay have a 2nd OP on my knee, to which over the past ne’er 4yrs to be unable to work, evenually paid off due to the knee, had to pay for my own MRI scan as for 2yrs i was told there wasnt a problem with my knee, basically its all in ur heid, got my 1st MRI paid by me, to be told no u have a serious problem with ur knee, then to get keyhole last yr May 15th, after the OP 6wks l8ter i told them my knee felt the same way to which i was told, give it time, as ill still be sore, got physio which was like passin a huge hegdehog oot ur ar5e lol with farmer giles n constapstion ( noo much info lol ) anyways 9wks after OP i was back in bed leg like an elephants, and still to be told no its all clear with xrays, i asked for another MRI to be told i didnt need it, then i got back onto my doc and he forced the issue and got me 2nd MRI scan, wasnae payin another £500..!! to be told we’ll need to do open surgery, which ive just had there 19th March, my knee doesnae feel like its mine im goin for my 1st physio session 2moz, just hope they will listen this time, as ive been told this prob has a 60% chance of returnin..!! lets hope im in the 40’s for once lol

anyways one problem which could help the NHS is to firstly bring back Matrons..!! let them run the wards not like the so called pen pushers whom get paid more, and waste funds on wasting money..!!! also what I don’t understand is why we offer everyone a free NHS,
when I was in Australia, i had to pay for Doc’s which if u have to go u have to go, no point complaining, as soon as anyone comes to UK they entitled to free NHS care..!!! sorry but the increase of the population, with the doors open to everyone to come and settle in Great Britain..!!! u got everything free…! even if your family all living in the country u come from, they get child benifit sent over to them…!!! you say have to be a resident of UK for atleast 3yrs b4 u get social money, NHS, Housing, anything, like Australia u have to be able to live atleast 3yrs without Goverment aide…!! thats the scarifice u make when u opt to live abroad, lets not rip them off with how much they pay, say a set yrly fee … makes more sense and would release more capital for spending in areas of UK which we need to address, put the money back into the commutities…

lol i do have verbal diahorria eh lol

ment to add…!!! the cleaner in my ward 21, should be sacked, as she certainly didnt not do much cleaning and what she did think was cleaning was less desirable..!!! mam brought in my dettol wipes and handwash and i didnae eat lol

I really do hope this time it works for you Mary and that your knee improves.

I do know what you mean about the ”cleaners” When my mum was in there last year, the standard of cleanliness was appalling, and this was / is a brand new hospital!!, it’d only been open 5 weeks or so, when she went in there.

I watched a nurse one day, cleaning and feeding a patient, in a bay opposite the room my mum was in, she was sleeping and I sat and watched this nurse. The patient, a man in his 50’s was suffering full on dementia, I thought it was so tragic given his age, but,,,,,when she’d finished with him,,,,,,she walked across to mums room, and she was in a room on her own because she had MRSA, and was going to clean and change her. I would’nt have been surprised if they’d heard me in the lobby, I let rip, all hell broke loose. Much as I sympathised with the patient before, it wasn’t his fault he was in that condition, but she had cleaned him, fed him and had then attempted to come into mums room, and at no point, had I seen her even wash her hands.

I totally agree with you Mary, get rid of the pencil pushers and clip board carriers and bring back the matron.

Last night, when I was at the hospital waiting to see my consultant, I was wishing i’d had a camera phone. In the waiting area was one of these drinks fountains, had I been rasping and dying of thirst I wouldn’t have had a drink from it, it was absolutely filthy, and I mean filthy in every sense of the word. Had I had a camera phone I would have taken a picture of it and sent it to the newspapers to publish.

It’s no wonder MRSA and C’DIFF are alive and well in most of our hospitals

I think the NHS is in a deep crisis. It is such a shame, as there are some very very good clinicians and nurses working very hard to try and keep the standards high. It has been on a downward slide for 20 years I think, and god knows what will fix it now.
