Funny gentlemen, thought
When looking at actors if female or male, think my attraction are the appeal of characters played../roles.
Love absolutely, Sean Connery. First Night Movie, Camelot, Robin Hood. Highlander series. But playing roles in 007, liked, but not the appeal.. thinking of Julie Andrews, always played sweet nice roles. Think once she said, Sound of Music, Mary Poppins doing these type of roles stuck her into those types not allowing her to try something different..Looking at Liza Manelli (Judy Garland’s daughter) has a very tuff appearance look. Some songs sing tuff as appearance, and others soft, not expecting it, or smooth ways… appearance still tuff. Make sense.
Yes hearing about Orson Wells announcement from my own parents explanation. Scary..
But better, “where were you when lights went out in 1975.” All of New York dead.. no electricty..people stuck in elevators, subways, trains..
And finally 1999 that movie or those proposed that World would end.. what was that movie, ” oh End of Days with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Scared everyone.
5 August, 2017 at 11:55 pm #1064186What i meant about tough and wise Sceptical is just that even though actors may have a tough and wise image on the screen…in real life they may be totally different. Some times one watches a film and thinks…that particular character is really playing them selves in real life where as others come across as acting( even though they may be great at it)
For instance : an actor may have a tough and hard screen image on screen but in televised interviews comes across as a warm cuddly type image. As a kid i was a bit slow… i used to think that all movie and T.V stars were in real life, like the personalities they played on screen.
I’ll check out Moreau Sunday and get back to you. Love a lot of the old movies.

It scared me that people were scared by The End of Days.
Interesting that your parents were caught up in The War of the Worlds scare, Linda. Were they living in NY State in 1938? Did they flee their home? If so, how long was it before they cottoned on that it was only a radio show?

6 August, 2017 at 11:48 am #1064219Geez Scept… after number of States screw up, memory ha, hope recall my version of parents with that right. Wish both still here so could reconfirm.
But, my Dad was born February 1921, so that would of made him 17, right, and Mom, September, 1929. (9) Both of my parents lived the majority, yes New York. Dad raised in the Bronx. Mom, Eastchester, New York. I almost want to say Dad think enlisted around that time to the military. In till he was 34 years old..
All I can say thinking over this when discussion came about was that no one was told it was fiction. Think lasted 14-16 hours in which people uncertain. My Dad older, said believers were hysterical. Do not think Dad was convinced, thought bull. And this was so long ago with conversation recall something about Rockefeller. (Think head of the Treasury Department, then) Rockefeller wealthy in his own right, to calm people down offered his own money if Aliens wanted us.
My Mother had 3 other sisters, 6 brothers. (10) household kids spoke both English/Italian. Parents both only spoke Italian…Mom laughed repeating that her 6 very tall brothers, got everyone so upset, had them packing clothing..to go where, mom did not remember hee hee…End of Day movie should have provided more clarity, and say bothered me some. The entire year remember all the hype in television shows, world coming to end. Both California/New York were sinking into ocean.. supporters thinking world ending, standing on corners of New York City holding signs to Repent our sins.. this movie was an example of the way things would end, not by demon, rather more mass destruction in forms the world would not be able to survive.
1975, myself also in New York still living at home, lights out..no television, nothing opened, think went to bed early. Do think also laughing that said in 1976 more birth rates contributed to that night. Ha….6 August, 2017 at 12:15 pm #1064221well, we had the lights out during the miners strike in 1972, and the three-day week in 1973-74, when we were encouraged to have a bath together to save water.
But thanks for sharing the memory of your parents experience and memory of 1938, Linda.

6 August, 2017 at 12:47 pm #1064228Laughing with you. Shared baths? Woman and men using separate baths or same? Very interesting…needing myself shower as leaving soon for work. 7:32 a.m. here..
Miners, ahh..sometime if you feel comfortable disclosing, were you a miner? Interest me. Was this forced employment, as no other employment around? Town raised in, everyone employed in mines? How many hours a day? Closed spaces did you feel tight squeeze? Protective gear, did mask be worn, extra oxygen used? Coal the objective to remove? Certain requirement or age to be a miner? This is real knowledge then rather hear from others in written books of History…
Loved my Dad’s Army days, better than books, those in Wars..supply such a richness of wealth and knowledge of reality in which so part of….makes me excited scep. Would so love to sit and listen to you then read it. But will take what ever offered when do..look forward to it….6 August, 2017 at 1:11 pm #1064232My grandad – on my mother’s side – was a miner, Linda. He was trapped in a mine collapse back in the 1930s. My aunty would never have a word said against the Salvation Army because they kept the family alive during the 1926 strike, People think of the General Strike of 1926 as lasting just nine day,s but the miner strike lasted nine months. The miners came out when their wages were reduced from £2.10 shillings a week (£2.50 in today’s money) to just £2 a week, whihc was breadline wages even then. After 9 months, they were literally starved back to work. Grandad was arrested briefly for trying to steal some coal to keep his family warm.
If you like history of that sort, I have much, including my grandad (on my dad’s side) who went to the USA (including new York State) in 1911. Now he was an interesting character. If you ever get the chance, I’ll tell you of it.
But you distract, you naughty woman. This is about Jeanne Moreau – and OrsonWelles.

Thank you for introducing the French actress as was not familar..
Paper articles have been very kind here. Few days ago, Los Angeles Times had large article for her…
Quoted saying
” French actress and new wave icon was a pioneer of unflinching portrayals of complex woman…
“Louis Malle’s – Elevator to the Gallows, Jacques Demy’s- Bag of Angels”, Michelangelo Antonioni’s “La Notte” Further quoting unafraid to let the scans of life show in on screen roles..
French President, Emmanuel Macron who described the stage and screen icon: “Jeanne Moreau was an artist involved in the whirlpool of life with absolute freedom.”
Will have to check out a movie..Oh like being naughty for real fun. Good way. Ummmm..Listening, stretch out and comfortable as with books and research, my blood races, adrenalin pumps in excitement of others story telling. Kid in a candy shop stay focused, excited, ask many questions. Not sure why.. my dad called me the kid in the candy shop, eyes wide opened…ha ha.
And yes want more…6 August, 2017 at 10:13 pm #1064342Scep….
