Lots of shops own brands are usually far cheaper than the famous “branded” names.
Anyone know any shop brands that in their opinion are as good if not better than their more famous rivals.
I’ll start with a daft one – smart price beans and sausages are really nice, well they are if ya like beans and sausages. :?

22 February, 2009 at 3:49 pm #393067I think in the past some supermarkets own brands have been ok, But now with the credit crunch and obviously people having to watch their spending, suppliers and supermarkets will just put whatever ingredients or quantity/quality of iingredients in carte blanche.
Even in good quality food ( or what we perceive as good quality ) it is surprsing the % of ingredients. Sausages can be 75% pork- the rest just bulk to make the weight up. Fish is another one, Due to the recent weather i went to buy some frozen fish – haddock – % of hadock 53% the rest again just water and bulk and that was a reputable frozen food brand. I find that I check the ingedients now. Thats when I can read them ,I think they print them so small that we can hardly read them.22 February, 2009 at 5:44 pm #393068I dont have a metal wallet

25 February, 2009 at 8:08 pm #393071Take two “Own Brand” products! (Not literally, that’s illegal)..
One has a design/the other hasn’t. They say that more often than not, there is no difference in the food quality.
The only difference being is that the one with the design costs a bit more in manufacturing..Think if you look hard enough, you’ll find that some supermarkets own brands will taste better than the more popular brands. Depends on the Individual, i suppose!
