Todays the day plastic bags will cost you 5p at your supermarket (and elsewhere) in England (the rest don’t count they’ve already had it)
The government will make £19 million out of it in VAT but will of course profess it’s a green measurePaper bags are exempt btw

When I was in Cardiff earlier in the year I thought it was some weird Welsh tax … 5p is fair enough on the odd item but after spending ££££’s in Monsoon I was a tad miffed to be charged for the bliddy bags. It’s free advertising for the store innit . :roll:
I asked at the supermarket today.
They do free exchanges of bags. When it rips, they’ll exchange any bag for its equivalent.

saying “am i charging for bags or what”?
i said “no”
he said “well the market manager said we have to”
im like ffs ” just leave it with me”just rang the manager cant get thruough yet,its awkward for me this all my stuff is 1,99,2.99 etc i dont want to be asking for 3.04 i will put the 5p in myself

shop(bag)lifting may well be on the cards
Bear in mind the exemptions when you can get one for free.
Free bags will still be provided for consumers buying uncooked meat, poultry or fish, prescription medicine, certain fresh produce such as flowers or potatoes, and unwrapped ready-to-eat food such as chips.
Smaller shops are exempt from the rule change but may choose to charge shoppers for bags as well.
