I was working at home today and my son was off school as he was ill. However he did a bit of clearing out of his room. One item to go was an old portable top-loading Alba CD player – the type that looks like a silver insect’s head.
I had the idea of removing all its innards and using it to keep sweets, choc bars etc. in – something for a teenager to surprise his friends with when they come round. So we took it apart, removed all the gubbins, made a few cuts with a fret saw and now we have the coolest choc caddy in the street!

I have no idea what the CD player looks like, but it sounds like a cool idea to make use of something that would have just been thrown out. 8)

8 December, 2005 at 8:31 pm #173493I don’t think our hollowed out CD player has a long term future but it makes a novelty item with lots of sharp bits inside for the unwary to scratch their fingers on as they sift the Quality Streets or Roses to make sure they don’t get a hard toffee in gold wrapper.
I’d be the first to agree that greater things have been achieved in the world of modification and customisation.
