A true Alpha is easy to spot, but you have to know how. A true Alpha is firm in their convictions, unwavering. They don’t need to argue, or to impress others or repeat themselves. They are comfortable with themselves and others around them. They don’t need to give explanations. They can easily take criticism and goading, yet don’t need to criticise others. They are polite, friendly and confident. They have ample attentions from the opposite sex. They can laugh at others’ jokes directed at them without a need to strike back. They have no desire to join gangs and bully. They don’t try to threaten or intimidate as their natural confidence they exude can be perceived by others as intimidating. They have respect from members of the same sex for being and doing the things listed above. Others seek them for advice, opinions and guidance. These are just a few ways to spot a true Alpha.

Define alpha male, TC. I remember once that to be an alpha male was all the rage. I never wanted to be. They upset me, maybe because they always seemed like prime bullies. Many wannabe bullies here. I assume that they’re bullied a lot at home or work, and it’s their way of handling it. So my guess is that an alpha male is a bully with aplomb

I’m just after opinions (and definitions). I may well give mine a little later, but in the meantime, I’d like to know what other people think – rather than discussing mine. I will say though, that to me, a True Alpha never bullies.

Well, every alpha male I’ve ever come across (I’ve not come across any in chat, though a helluva lot of wannabes) or read about is a Grade A psychotic.

You obviously define a true alpha-male in your own way, TC, but I’m talking about the alpha male which was very popular when I was a boy. Konrad Lorenz first announced alpha male to the world (Lorenz had been a Nazi in the 1930s, whose book On Aggression is quite a scary account of killer animals who are also very good at attracting particular types of woman.

People talk of his Nazi inspiration, but he seems to have been also inspired by Nietzsche’s idea of the ubermensch, who saw Christianity and Socialism as appealing to slaves and women.

    Ugly – imho.

More interesting are the untermensch who worship and follow the alpha-male (and many do!), and those men and women who stand apart with disgust.

The biggest failure of radical feminism was its (effective) substitution of the alpha-female for the alph-male.

Ironic. a thread about “Alpha” I assume males, gets ‘manipulated’ by another male into a supposedly “high brow” thread, about what is or isn’t an “alpha” male.

Anybody can over analyze and try and intellectualize any subject, including in this instance, what is, or what isn’t an “alpha” male. The issue is far too complex to compartmentalize into “safe” little boxes and to attempt to do so, is just lazy. Alpha males have far more important things to do, than sitting on JC boards arguing the toss, about who is right, or who isn’t right, when it comes to “alpha” males on an internet website.

I am not an alpha male, don’t claim to be an alpha male, have never claimed to be an alpha and am confident enough, I don’t want to be an alpha male.
