What is the point in having all this super duper expensive technology to forecast the weather? When the forecasters manage to get it right once in a blue moon what is done to prevent misery of travel etc? Gritters! That’s what. And having a gritter come along once a night doesn’t seem to make any difference, so what’s the point? The obvious solution would be snow ploughs. And whilst I understand councils can’t have fleets of snow ploughs on standby wasting our money, they should at least ask farmers before winter sets in to fill out the necessary paperwork so they can “work” the roads. Quite simple in theory.
There needs to be a radical change!20 December, 2010 at 4:43 pm #457560You have gritters? Lucky you!
The council’s answer around this way was to place huge bags of grit/salt around town at “strategic locations” about 2 weeks ago so that members of the public could play their part in dealing with the snow. Only problem is that by the time the snow arrived most of it had been taken, presumably by people wanting to do their own drives and paths, at the expense of the town centre pavements that the supplies were intended for. Couldn’t see that one coming…perhaps I should send the council one of our crystal balls!

ill think you will find the public will get arrested if they use it
it for council work men to spread it :roll:20 December, 2010 at 4:58 pm #457562There used to be grit containers on some street corners in the village where I work, they were for the public to use too actually. They were removed when the little darlings kept vandalising them.

it for council work men to spread it :roll:After the shambles of the council dealing with (or not dealing with) the snow in January, and their claims that they had enough grit but not the manpower to spread it, they were told in no uncertain terms “give us the grit and we’ll spread it” – and that is exactly what the council has done. They have communicated via the local papers and radio that is it their expectation the public will play their part in keeping the pavements safe by spreading the grit on their behalf rather than them send out council workers to do it. So on that note, I doubt anyone is going to get arrested for spreading it…however stealing it to use on their own drives is another matter.
20 December, 2010 at 5:15 pm #457564And of course they hold no liability for any unforseen mishaps caused through the “spreading”
20 December, 2010 at 5:21 pm #457565No more liability than they hold if they do nothing.
20 December, 2010 at 5:22 pm #457566Not everyone thinks “compo!!!” Gaz
20 December, 2010 at 5:26 pm #457567Things have gone barmy in the age of Compo Mania.
If I clear the pavement outside my shop and somone falls and hurts themselves I am to liable. If however I do nothing and leave the snow and ice and someone falls over and hurts themselves they have no claim over anyone. Silly.
We do however clear the pavement, as do some other shops, not all of them do. I would like to think if someone did unfortunately fall over even on a cleared path they would have the decency to think that we did at least try to make it safe for them and it was an actual ACCIDENT!20 December, 2010 at 5:29 pm #457568@kent f OBE wrote:
