A city bar has been ordered to close following reports of drug abuse and guns being carried on the premises.
Police asked for the premises licence to be taken away from the owner of the Pelu Bar and Restaurant, in Humberstone Road, Leicester.
Police also received information on two occasions that people were carrying firearms at the bar.
After hearing evidence from both sides, Leicester City Council’s licensing hearing panel decided to revoke the licence.
After the hearing, panel chairman Councillor John Thomas, said: “I was quite appalled by the operation of these premises.
Police licensing officer Pc Sean Moore said: “Having heard evidence from police officers who attended numerous incidents at the premises, and incidents that the council’s enforcement officers have dealt with, the committee said there was a ‘catalogue’ of breaches of the licensing conditions.”
In Pc Moore’s statement to the hearing panel, he told them: “Since the granting of this licence there has been a history of breaches of conditions relating to noise and CCTV operation, in particular.
“On Saturday, October 28, 2006, as a result of a complaint from a nearby resident, police attended the premises at 4.43am and found customers drinking in the street. Loud music was playing. There was a strong smell of cannabis inside.
“The officers were met with aggression and obstruction by people at the premises but eventually engaged with the licence holder asking him to close. He failed to do so.
“The officers turned off the music and were subjected to racially-aggravated threats. The licence holder told the officers he had lost control of the premises.”
The licence holder was unavailable for comment yesterday.
Quite a shocking table of events, printed in the local paper, nicknamed by local people as the Leicester “mockery”. Such criminal behaviour is usually found in the early pages of the local rag, maybe page 5 with massive national news, no, this story was published on page 19.
I could have bored you with paragraphs of local authorities saying we expect this, we want that, but in all reality, when you socially allow immigrants of mass, the freedom to grow as they do at home, you get a backlash that creates racial divide.
