My late mother suffered from schizophrenia. It was certainly no laughing matter for her, me or my family. To mock such ppl is incredibly insensitive. She died a tortured soul and was robbed of many years of having a happy life to a horrible illness.

The holocaust was no laughing matter.

I had an in-law who was very dear to me who lived in Warsaw in disguise for much nof the Nazi Occupation. Her family weren’tso lucky – her dad and mam, her borthers and sisters ended in the ovens.

Nazi jokes about the holocaust make me sick.

Lenny Bruce’s humour makes me laugh.

So do his jokes about child abuse, or the death of loved ones.

Mocking is one form of humour, a form which is characterisitc in a mild way of people on these boards.

But humour is protean. More than one response to horror.

And for those who have had to deal with mental illness, sometimes the humour is both cruel and cutting. Never mocking of the illness.

ok, I take that back about Jen_Jen, but I am sure she will. However, you have contradicted yourself!

When I was a child (until I was a teenager), I had three Mitzi’s – I never wondered why they suddenly got smaller!! All golden retrievers. :D

I also think it depends who it is…….I have come to realise that I only have very few real friends in jc……..ones a witch from Surrey and ones a witch from Newcastle ( both str8 before anyone ask) haha and I cant forget Aussie Sassy(I can tell sassy anything)……I have realised that some people who I thought I would be friends with for a very long time weren’t real friends in the end….but i don’t regret the friendship whilst it lasted its been a learning curve for me and some people just connect better than others……what I find very hard is seeing ppl who were “good friends” tell the whole room private stuff about the other person just because they av fallen out…….I find it very sad that, that one person you thought you could trust then goes and tells everyone stuff that you confided in them about, Ive fallen out with someone and I wouldnt dream of going in the room and saying hey everyone by the way joe bloggs is blah blah blah ……….its wrong and yeh some of you will say well dont tell ppl stuff you dont want others to know BUT maybe a person thinks he/she can trust someone and opens up to them, maybe its me but I dont think its right to sh it on someone just cuz u dont wanna be their friend anymore………….just sayin!!

    Very true.

People seem to stop think it’s OK to do things online that would be regarded as a bit dodgy outside, just cos they think there are no consequences.

Sadly there can be really nasty ones and people get hurt.

You keep your principles girl. At the end of the day, you’re the only one who really has to live with you. At least you can have some self-respect.

I agree and disagree, I don’t think it is ok at all, that is why I feel so awful – however, having said that, I would have done the same in ‘real’ life.

Facebook is the spawn of evil and I refuse to have it despite being begged endlessly by friends. Mostly for the reasons Jen highlighted, it has its uses but I much prefer picking up the phone and calling a friend or meeting them. It suits some people, just not me I’m afraid.

Yeah, I agree with you. Think I might set up fundamental orifice Book.

Our father who are in prison,

Thy chavdom come, thy shoplifting be done,
In JJB Sports as it is in Poundland,
Give us this day our welfare bread,
    And forgive us our ASBOs,
As we happy slap those who give evidence against us.
And lead us not into employment,
    But deliver us free housing,
    For thine is the chavdom,
    The Burberry and the Blackberry,
    For ever and ever,
    Innit.

Not a big fan of the use of the epithet ‘Chav’ myself. Regardless of any definitions or variations, It’s never positive and tends to be directed at myriad stereotypes of the British white working-class. If it was black people or gay people being caricatured like that, most people would be dissociating themselves from it.

Why, oh why, do you bring it upon yourself Wordsy?!!! :?

I got my dog from Battersea Dogs Home when he was 6 months old – his name was MAC – his colour is whisky! (well, was, he is now 13 and going grey :( They suggested we change his name to Smiler, because he is always looking like he is, I decided not to, he had a tough enough time! :D

Soz Scep, but I agree with Jen_Jen, neither condition is pleasant for the person, or their nearest and dearest.
