These kinds of things have always happened – it’s just that they happen more often now.
I agree there’s no single solution. Most children grow up wanting to be reasonably good, even if they want to kick against the system a bit sometimes. Then there are those who like to push the boundaries. Among them, most boys and probably all girls would…[Read more]

Someone I know was a pilot in the RAF during the war and in his civilian business career he was a frequent flier as an airline passenger and travelled by plane like many of us hop on a bus.
But…… He never went in a helicopter and said he never would do so.

April Fool’s or not, surely a gay person being randomly hugged could report the hugger for harrassment or assault.
I don’t know any gay people, but I might see if I can find some nice lesbians (fems, not butch, please) to hug!!!

Two people destroyed the coal industry in Britain – Margaret Thatcher and Arthur Scargill.
Remember, Scargill was arguably the second most powerful person in Britain at the time.Having said that, it would have probably declined to its present size without the involvement of either of them.
When the left adopted the green agenda there’s no way…[Read more]

We have an ‘involuntary’ pet ….. the neighbour’s bloody cat !!! It absolutely insists on using the back lawn as its personal toilet…. no matter what I say to it.
I’m going to borrow a dirty great big dog – with a bad attitude, a worse temper, and a big hunger (for cats).
That might keep the cats out but you’ll just end up with dog poo all…[Read more]

Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Druidism. It’s part the same thing, religion, which is a form of collective insanity.

I know a story about a parrot that did something really terrible that caused a huge amount of damage to property but I’m not telling!!
With my cats, it’s the occasional cat-on-cat violence that gets me most – one of our cats is quite a bully when he feels like it.

British, always British. The island we live on is called Great Britain and it is one nation.
Great Britain should never be split up. The UK (which includes northern Ireland as well as Great Britain) is a different matter – N.Ireland should remain in the UK while the majority of its population wish to stay. If the majority wish to join with…[Read more] -

Bassingbourne55 replied to the topic New name for Bristol development in the board Getting serious 16 years, 3 months ago
As for a name, Merchants Quarter sounds just fine, I doubt it was only slaves who were sold and the professional “outraged in my name” people seem to forget this fact too.
I don’t think slaves were ever sold in Bristol, it was that the city of Bristol made a lot of money out of the slave trade in the colonies through its shipping companies carrying…[Read more]

In my case, as might be guessed from the separate topic, I’m going through 60’s garage punk recordings on YouTube. It’s an amazing experience, there’s some wild music there.
I was there in the 60’s (I was 11 in 1966) and was into ‘pop’ music as it was called, the Stones, Kinks, Who, Beatles, Mersey Beats, Dave Clark Five etc etc but very little…[Read more] -

I knew about the 60’s garage bands and how they were said to influence punk in the mid 70’s but I didn’t realise how similar the music was and how big the garage movement was.
I’ve found lots more examples on Youtube – I think the music is better than most 70’s/80’s punk actually, with a few exceptions like the Undertones.I was originally…[Read more]

Great songwriter, good guitarist but not much of a singer. But so distinctive that he’s a style all of his own.
