anabananna69…. I’m not an expert – but a look on the net or in the financial press will show that a lot of houses on sale are having prices reduced and the general belief seems to be that house prices will fall – possibly by quite a large amount.
What are the two worst-case scenarios?
1 – You don’t buy now and house prices continue to rise beyond your reach.
2 – You buy now and house prices go down, meaning you could have got a much cheaper place if you’d waited.I think only you can decide after doing some research – what you feel in your bones about where prices are heading. Certainly, if you do want to buy now – make a low first offer, at least 10% below asking price!
16 March, 2008 at 9:55 pm #317131I have always had a very strong opinion that Thursdays are always Thursdays, and people are not sufficiently aware of this fact. But I’m denied the right to go on TV to voice my belief. If I demand air time I’m made to feel like I’m mad. Surely this is discrimination.

Surely you won’t have much room in the caravan if you’ve got your silver Transit in there with you!
13 March, 2008 at 10:56 pm #317573I’m happy where I am and my mortgage is paid off so in a sense it doesn’t bother me if prices go up or down. In general I think falling prices would be good, though.
To answer my own question in the original post – if I was a first time buyer now, unless I had a specific must-have property in mind, I’d hold off right now in the hope of getting better value in a few months time.
13 March, 2008 at 10:41 am #317460I agree taxes on gas guzzling cars should be increased sharply, but it’s unfair to single out 4x4s, when they are not all gas guzzlers.
And what about the Jaguar X-Type and Audi TT, for example? Most, but not all, of those are 4x4s, even if they don’t look like off-roaders.
I see that Darling hasn’t singled out 4x4s – just general gas guzzlers – which is right.
One of the London Boroughs wanted to introduce higher parking chargs for 4x4s, which was silly. Edinburgh has a better proposal – increased charges for longer cars, which take up more space.
PS I hope I managed to correct my terrible spelling mistake…. ‘Edinborough’, before anyone saw it!!!!!!!!
13 March, 2008 at 10:38 am #317213Sad, but I suppose it’s one way to become a celebrity.
He’s just doing the Pete Doherty / Britney Spears / Amy Winehouse / George Best thing, but in a different way.
