I’ve never liked Billy Connolly. After his sick joke about Ken Bigley which caused a mass audience walkout he should have been ostracised like Bernard Manning was.

Speeding and most moving traffic offences are criminal offences. I believe parking infringements are civil offences except in cases of parking in dangerous places or obstruction.

I’ve never understood why people get so bothered about speed cameras. If there’s a speed limit of 40 mph, the camera’s only going to catch people doing over 40 mph, which they shouldn’t be doing anyway. Some people claim these speed camera fines are a form of taxation. If that’s true, then it’s a good form or taxation because there’s an easy way to avoid paying it!

I can’t believe I saw a driver at traffic lights who was chatting on his mobile and didn’t move off when the lights went green. The driver behind was hooting his horn too!

With the stricter laws and all the publicity recently, didn’t this moron realise he could now be disqualified from driving for a careless act (failure to observe a traffic signal) while using a hand-held mobile?

When people think they have no voice, the extremists step in to ‘represent’ them. That’s what the islamic fundamentalists, Sinn Feinn, UDA, etc. did. In the case of the white working-class, if the main parties fail them, I guess it’s the BNP who’ll be muscling in unless a proper socialist movement can be rescuscitated at the eleventh hour.

I think we got a glimpse of Hilary Clinton’s nasty streak when she was a bit ruffled by Obama – like she was thinking ‘I rightfully deserve this nomination and how dare he get in my way’.

Obama looks sort of promising depite a terrible ‘bushism’ early in the campaign when he said something like: “and when we win, first we will change America and then we will change the world” Errr…….no!

Meanwhile, the Republican McCain comes across as totally uninspiring.

I’m against all religions but there are two things that bother me about islam in particular.

    1) Do muslims in Britain, in general, and the imams in particular, deep down, believe that non-muslims should remain free to go about their lives without any deference to islam or sharia law?

    2) Islam preaches that the penalty for apostacy (leaving the religion) should be death. I know that in Britain this is unlikely but Salman Rushdie is a high-profile ex-muslim, after all.

I believe the law need to be clarified and possibly altered to place limits on the power of any religion. The two main points in such legislation would be that no religion should be able to claim that it is a sin to not belong to that religion, and the greatest penalty any religion should be able to impose for breaking its rules should be expulsion from the religion. Religious publicity should also be subject to advertising standards. It is illegal to claim that a medicine cures cancer, but it’s not illegal to claim a book will give you everlasting life!!!

These signs were used before the days of mobile phones so I don’t think it was ever the intention that following drivers mobiled a call back to the company. I don’t suppose anybody ever calls these numbers about good driving anyway. We are all supposed to be good drivers, especially heavy goods drivers and bus drivers. This is what is expected of us. We rarely notice good driving from outside a vehicle, it’s the norm, it’s only bad driving that stands out.

Britain, or at least England, is finished. We might as well roll over and die (metaphorically) s we stand for nothing, we have no vision and no sense of identity. English = default identity of anyone left over after the real identities have been handed round!

English = fat, thick 30something guy with shaved head in England T shirt and falling down shorts!

English traditions are under fire from all sides – our rights to drop litter, vandalise public property or gather in drunken groups late at night might soon be a thing of the past!

firstly I’m very sorry to hear about the attack and the terrible injuries.

Regarding the Yorkshire Ripper, he’s likely to remain in a high security mental institutiuon until he dies. A big sum of money would be of little use to him.

I know you’ve posted a chain about putting all sorts into prison, but I’ll give a sensible reply to this thread.

Leaving dangerous litter, like broken glass, should be seen as a separate, more serious offence. If you just happen to break a beer bottle, by accident, in a childrens’ playground, it should be your legal responsibility to clear up all the broken glass and the punishment for not doing so should include the possibility of prison in some cases.
