We decided to pay off our morgage 2 years ago as it was an endowment with a predicted shortfall. I worked out that cashing in the associated life insurance policy, although at a loss, made sense when taking into account all the mortgage interest payments and life insurance premiums we would save over the next few years.
But it’s not all good news, as my work is mostly connected with providing publicity material for the housing market and that has gone really quiet.
10 December, 2007 at 12:57 pm #294708I am an atheist and, while I don’t object strongly to nativity plays in schools, I’m quite happy to see them phased out. I believe children should be taught ABOUT religions rather than indoctrinated INTO them. The same goes for politics. Allowing the spread of hardline ‘ethical’ views of any kind, under the excuse of ‘tolerance’ is a dangerous folly that will take its toll on the coming generations.
3 December, 2007 at 5:00 pm #294190No, the teddy is clearly the guilty party here. It should be beheaded in front of the schoolchildren as a lesson to all other teddy bears that try to get above themselves.

3 December, 2007 at 10:20 am #293979Probably the main statistical result of this absurd teddy bear affair is that beforehand there were probably hardly any teddies named Mohammed but now I’d imagine a lot of teddies have been renamed Mohammed! I know of at least one such bear.
Since radical islamists are in the habit of punishing victims as well as perpetrators, I think perhaps the teddy bear in question should be beheaded.

3 December, 2007 at 10:13 am #294225Well, the teacher’s been pardoned, let’s hope she gets home safely. This has proved that there are a few sane people in Sudan!
3 December, 2007 at 10:11 am #294096The questioners often seem to be hardliners – like you say, leftie liberals but also Little Englander Colonel Blimp ultra-tories too. TV likes ratings and conflict and controversy = ratings!
29 November, 2007 at 6:38 pm #294076Lots of old-school lefties are eating their words as we come to realise that not all the immigrants who come here subscribe to the old ‘coffee-coloured melting pot’ and ‘rich tapestry of cultural diverstity’ theories and, just like ‘us’, not all of them are nice people!
But I’d still say that the majority of immigrants just want a better life and want to fit in and be liked here.
29 November, 2007 at 6:31 pm #294045I’m in half a mind to go to France, buy a pig and call it Napoleon (illegal to do that in France)
Or I’ll stick my stamps upside down on my Christmas cards this year (a treasonable offence in UK)
These were just 2 of the ridiculous laws from round the world that were posted on JC quite recently.
If I did either of the above, nobody would do anything about it, and the calling the teddy Mohammed should be solved by renaming it Mahmoud!!!!!
