I remember singing ‘Rule, Britannia, Britannia rules the waves. Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.’ Germans still sing: ‘Deutschland, Deutschland uber allas’. (Germany, Germany over all).
The film’s disturbing nonetheless.
5 September, 2006 at 8:07 pm #238385A scenario has been developing in my mind which could lead to a holocaust against white people in a few decades time. It is basically that there are many ‘ducks’ of resentment against us floating in the pond of world politics. Some of the resentment might be justified but it’s not going to help us if we just go roung crying ‘oh,woe! oh, woe!’
It only needs someone to start lining up the ducks and we’re done for. Someone like Al Qaeda.
Radical islamist extremists preach hatred against us and increasingly they can live lives that boycott the west economically – they can buy Korean, Japanese and Chinese consumer goods.
China is now pouring aid into Africa and might succeed where the west has failed.
So what I’m saying is that the west is set to become irrelevant to a large portion of the world that will be able to live very nicely without us.
So, if at some future crisis point radical islamists and, say, Chinese nationalists and the worldwide African diaspora all make common cause against us, we’re finished.
Perhaps I’m scaremongering but it’s something that could happen.
5 September, 2006 at 7:56 pm #238384I am sure no one can deny IS responsible for what he is talking about – ie the continuous plundering and poluting of OUR planet.
Chinese people are ‘sort of white’, I suppose, while many Indians have quite pale skin – I mean in a few years we can be as green as we like but those up-coming superpowers will be ‘plundering and polluting’ the planet more and more.
5 September, 2006 at 7:51 am #240105I’m not suggesting Churchill thought of himself as a prophet.
When I was looking up more on Churchill I came across his feelings about the use of poison gas, which was basically that it was no worse than shredding people with shrapnel from exploding artillery shells. He advocated the development of ‘knockout’ gases that would temporarily disable an enemy with no permanent effects. In modern warfare such a weapon would be much more humane than ‘daisy cutter’ and ‘MOAB’ bombs that can flatten a whole village or a training camp. But I suppose gas is seen as cheating, not quite cricket.4 September, 2006 at 10:44 pm #240104I agree to some extent. Pakistan and Indonesia might have had female leaders in the recent past but such a prospect looks remote now – not just because there aren’t any up and coming female candidates either.
The extreme right is a retrograde force too, but it is very small and unorganised. The extreme left is also a retrograde force, as are extreme environmentalists who believe plastic bags are killing the planet and other half-baked scientific quackery!
4 September, 2006 at 7:34 am #240100‘Muhammadenism’ certainly was not in it’s infancy, indeed christians virtually wiped out the muslim faith before the inquisition, some 800 years ago.
This was also “many summers ago”. What Churchill said was very relevant to today’s reality on the ground.
3 September, 2006 at 7:46 pm #240098Prophet = prophesying the future. I don’t mean like Mystic Meg or anything, just an astute understanding of a situation and where it might lead.

31 August, 2006 at 1:26 pm #238548I used to be keen on recycling but now it’s gone too far. We have a weekly recycling collection including little brown bins for waste food and a box for paper, bottles and tins. All fine, except perhaps the rotting food! But the problem is the main bin collection is now evert 2 weeks instead of every week. There are only 3 of us and the wheelie bin is always full after 2 weeks – bigger families must have problems.
I also take garden waste and cardboard to the tip. There, they also collect plastic bottles for recycling and I used to take them up there. But the onset of recycling fatigue means the plastic bottles now go in the wheelie bin. Waste food is next!
31 August, 2006 at 8:03 am #238440We should have a near zero alcohol limit for driving, allowing for no more than a residual trace.
So mamy people that go binge drinking one night get behind the wheel the next morning, unaware that they are still over the limit. It would be interesting to see the results of random breath tests on drivers on their way to work on a Monday morning.
