When I typed in F,C,UK (without the commas) it automatically changed to French Connection UK!
31 August, 2006 at 7:54 am #238529Lots of people wear T-shirts etc. that carry grossly offensive words, messages or images. I think that the law should be tightened to make it illegal to wear such items in public. That
would see off the silly FCUK label!I think I’ll just nip off to the local T-shirt printers and get one saying: “Spread rabies – smuggle a bat.” or suchlike or “Yes to nuclear war”.
31 August, 2006 at 7:47 am #238543We already pay for having our rubbish collected through council tax.
If they introduce a ‘pay as you throw system’ it will just mean an increase in illegal dumping of rubbish. There is enough of a problem with fly tipping already without offering an incentive!
Others who don’t want to break the law will have rubbish heaps in their gardens and everyone will be lighting bonfires to burn packaging etc.
If there is ever a case for compulsorily charging everyone for a service and then providing it universally, with no further charge at time of use, surely rubbish collection is that case.
28 August, 2006 at 10:51 pm #238328Notwithstanding Israel’s over-response to the Hezbollah situation, he disregards the fact that Hezbollah started lobbing missiles into Israel and that probably had a bigger effect omn bringing about the war than the kidnap of the soldiers did.
Hezbollah might have seen sense and that might have an effect on Iran’s behaviour, but it will not have much effect on Al Qaeda, which is from the rival camp of fundamentalism.
27 August, 2006 at 5:52 pm #238241I’m patriotic but I don’t have any emotional attachment to the pound (except for the ones in my bank account!). A common currency makes sense as long as it’s stable and now the Euro looks just as stable as the pound.
27 August, 2006 at 5:41 pm #238238My original posting was about acceptance of the Euro in UK shops rather than opinions on the Euro! Never mind! And the thread has been off topic into the land of mud slinging and back.
So……
In my opinion we should have joined the Euro when it began, and we should definitely be seeking to join ASAP. The government could impose a two month price freeze, one month ahead of our joining and one month after. Pound priced should be converted to the Euro EXACTLY using the exchange rate on the chanegeover day – that would eradicate much of the profiteering that went on in Italy and elsewhere.

25 August, 2006 at 10:17 pm #237394What constitutes violence?
Exactly! Perhaps there is a definition, I don’t know.
If its described by the government, isnt that state law, dictatorship, totalitarianism, fascism. Why do we collectively assume left wing is nice
We don’t. The left / right thing has more to do with private / public ownership, social equality etc. than freedom vs. authoritarianism.
However, I can see an argument for curbing the worst excesses of the internet. It’s been done with illegal porn, fraud scams and islamic militant sites, so why not ban violent internet games and sick sites offereing things like videos of real car crashes as ‘entertainment’.
25 August, 2006 at 3:45 pm #237389We are possibly in the ‘golden age’ of the internet at present. While its technological capability might continue to improve, its unregulated nature is likely to be curtailed. Also as the web matures, more and more free sites will become paysites.
Will websites about boxing or historic fighter aircraft become illegal as they glorify violence?
23 August, 2006 at 9:02 pm #237345I didn’t think they had to poison our food – the Americans are doing a great job of that already – been to McDonald’s etc lately?
There aren’t any Americans working at our local McDonald’s. Anyway, nobody’s forced to go to Mcdonald’s. I never go to our McDonald’s because it’s just across the road from KFC and Pizza Hut!
