A stunning senior moment
Apparently, a self-important college freshman attending a recent football game took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen sitting next to him why it was impossible for the older generation to understand his generation.

“You grew up in a different world, actually an almost primitive one”, the student said, loud enough for many of those nearby to hear. “The young people of today grew up with television, jet planes, space travel, man walking on the moon. Our space probes have visited Mars. We have nuclear energy, ships and electric and hydrogen cars, cell phones , computers with light-speed processing…and more.”

After a brief silence, the senior citizen responded as follows:

“You’re right, son. We didn’t have those things when we were young……..so we invented them. Now, you arrogant little so & so, what are you doing for the next generation?”

The applause was amazing…….

I guess I have read so many books it is difficult to choose ones that are my favourites. Here are just a few that spring to mind:

The Wasp Factory by Iain M Banks
anything by Jane Austen
Player of Games also by Iain M Banks
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and Through the Looking Glass
The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing
Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Handmaid’s Tale – Margaret Atwood
Howard’s End by E M Forster
Anything by F Scott Fitzgerald but loved the Great Gatsby and Tender is the Night
Most recently i’ve been trying to read Ulysses by James Joyce.. a labour of love :)

…books contain the depth, breadth and essence of humanity, without them we would be so much poorer

mims bbc2 years ago ran a series for tender is the night with peter strauss in it , it was brilliant……
