    it’s obviously a serious subject.

i just don’t want to end up mysteriously hanging of the edge of a cliff because a friend of alcoholic magee needs a new liver.

Tommy it is a very serious subject but i do think you should read up abit on it. Carrying a donor card doesnt tell someone your blood group, your tissue type , how good of a match you will be etc etc. All these things need to be taken into account before an organ can be transplanted else there wouldnt be a waiting list at all cos everyone would match everyone else.

The card is just an indidcator that you would like your organs to be donated in which case co ordinators get in touch with next of kin and it goes from there. Recipients arent picked out willy nilly they are on a long waiting list and it is by the grace of God that the donors organ will match yours. Much testing needs to be done and if you can imagine one organ and maybe at least four people of the *list* needing it you can imagine the heartache when told it doesnt suit.

There are many websites mary relating to it all. Next time your in a drs surgery pick up some leaflets there or request some on line.
There is no starting age limit for donation im not sure of the ceiling age but i think it may be around 60 depending on donors health of course. The recipient age used to be around 55 but it is much higher now cos of better knowledge anti rejection drugs etc etc

Tommy you sound to me as it you are belittling the seriousness of this situation. Either that or you watch too much tv. Many many donors are needed to keep ordinary people alive. (Take this from one that knows).

Angel i hope all goes well for your sis and her mum. Shes very lucky she has a live donor who is a match. As you said it is indeed a gift of life.
Some are not in this situation and have to rely on cadaver donations.
Organ donation has to be one of the most selfless actions known and people should be proud to carry the card.
