Thanks for all the info Doa ……….. i dont think being a no brainer quite comes into it. its a new pc and a family friend who by the way is very technically minded and well up on his use etc of computers has assured me that its easier to get into fort knox then it is into my comp. He set it up alls i do is use it.

I have a desk pc and the older laptop this is a new one. I have been assured and reasurred that the problem is nothing to do with my laptop /comp… that it is an msn problem.

I think i said this started before xmas … sorry thats a mistake it was the week after that it started

As for paying for anti virus programme i actually think you have a point there. I purchased zone alarm for years on my other laptop and had no probs. This might be just a coincidence ….. who knows.

People are told somethings Sharon but not the whereabouts/names etc it can be a help to people who are grieving …………… Recipients are asked if they would like to write to the donor family. This letter is given to the co-ordinator who passes it on to the family. No names are involved unless you add your first name when signing it. This isnt done until about two months after the recipient has had the operation. This allows time for both the family to have had initial grieving and the recipient to have had a period of healing.

It is/was in my opinion one of the most heartfelt things i ever had to do….. to express gratitude to people who has suffered a loss yet had the foresight and fortitude to make this hard descision… the strength to carry the legacy of a loved ones life through for the better of a stranger ……You can thank someone for buying you a present but how do you thank them for giving you the ultimate gift of life.

Without great people like these …… there would not be grateful people like me

im not quite sure what you mean there waspish…..*we can never be certain that people in third world countries [for instance] will not donate organs for cash, fine if its your own, but not so fine if your an unwilling donor.* Surely this would be have to be a live donation

im just going along the lines of the organ being *a match* for the recipient. In UK and NI the match has to be much higher to be transplanted than say in The Irish Republic ….. for what reason i dont know. To lower these *matches* might make for more transplants …. tho i am sure you are under no delusions to the ammount of imunnodepressant medication that the recipient will be on for life. But i firmly believe that to give the patient a few good years rather than leaving them on the machine until a better match comes along is more benefical whilst they are still young enough to enjoy it .

Transplants are not cures ………. they are merely treatments (albeit very effective ones)

Unfortunately it doesnt work like that ……. unless it is a live donation whereupon you may donate to a member of your family if you are a match …..

There are very stringent tests carried out on both harvested organs and the recipients before the operation can go ahead ….. its not like shopping ….. its not like saying that one looks ok i will have that one. The organs go to whoever they suit the best……. read a little bit of research on it …. a little knowledge can go a long way

thats a very valid point anita …… tho who knows how that would fare with the government we have. As bad as rich folk going elsewhere to *buy organs*

It has always been said to discuss donation incase of death for whatever reason with your next of kin. Let your wishes be known and yes Carol a clause of such like what you have suggested would be most appropiate. Would be one way round the controversy i should imagine.

This is where the *opt out* will come into its own. Theres no one saying you have to sign it or not sign it as the case may be. Its a personal decision. Some will argu that they will be frowned upon but opting out but i believe no one can make anyone else feel inferior unless they are allowed.

Well said Sharon but as a recipient ……. twice…. i can say that the old cliche “The Gift of Life” is indeed true…… as i have said i have been there done that and bought the t shirt.
Never for a minute do i stop realising how lucky I am have been or indeed still am.

There are 8,000 people needing a transplant and with 3,000 transplants a year it doesnt need a genius to work out the maths. What it does need is for people to do something about it. Many many people want to be donors and state this but because of one reason or another they do not sign the register ……. not because they dont want to but because they just dont take the time out or think that they or anyone belonging to them will ever be in the situation.

They just dont take the time to *opt in* .They may make more of an effort to *opt out*

However as i have always said its each to their own….. its not up to anyone to force their views on someone else. People only fear what they dont know tho some say *ignorance is bliss* unfortunately me and mine are only to aware that this is not always the case.

I watched people i knew die on a weekly basis in hosp. Real people who because of a lack of organs where denied life.

This *opt out* descision is long long overdue ….. unfortunately i think this is only the start and the end result will not happened for a long time yet
