Most young people would keep the monarchy, despite over half of them saying that the Royals do not provide value for money, according to a new study.
Nearly 70% of 18 to 24-year-olds would keep the Royals and overall only 16% of people would vote for a republic.
The poll of 1,004 people, commissioned by Discovery Channel, also found that Prince William was voted as the top choice for the next monarch.
The Prince was most popular among the 18 to 24 year-olds, with 70% wanting William to rule. But despite the Queen being the oldest monarch on the throne, 81% of those questioned did not want her to step down.
William’s girlfriend Kate Middleton received a boost from the polls. Over 80% thought that she would be a good addition to the Royal Family.
But William’s stepmother Camilla received less support from the public – less than half of the country saying she was a good ambassador for the Royal Family. Her approval rating was increasing, however – under a third of people questioned said they felt more warmly towards her since her marriage to the Prince of Wales.
Almost 70% of people said they still had more admiration for Diana than Charles’s new wife.
support for retaining the monarchy remains fairly constant and, some will find, surprisingly high. Seventy-six per cent favour monarchy over republic. It is a high approval rate by any measure and is largely due to the constancy of the Queen’s long reign. She should give herself a pat on the back for a job well done.”
Looking at the youngsters near me i’m supprised 70% know who the queen is

27 December, 2007 at 3:13 pm #296797Last time i went out New Years Eve i paid £35 for a ticket to a pub which said it was open late and having a party just to get booted out 30 mins after midnight at 12:30 because they were closing, What a fecking rip off. Then you got the age old New years Eve custom of waiting for 2 hours for a cab then having a fight because someone try’s too nick it when it turns up. Then get stung for the fare. So i f you didn’t guss already i don’t bother anymore
27 December, 2007 at 2:44 pm #297087We shouldn’t have to pay for her, but she also pays tax. It’s the goverment that ripping us off. I object more to the £40 a week extra tax i have pay to Ken just for the privalage of living in the over crowded dumping ground they call London

26 December, 2007 at 4:04 pm #296723If we get rid of the Queen they will only turn Buckingham Palace into a Giant Mc D’s or a reception centre for lesbian alcoholic drug taking asylum seekers. Winsor Castle will become a Harvester and Balmoral Castle will be a huge KFC with chavs doing donuts in the car park with their Nova’s, That’s if Ken Livingstone don’t get his grubby little hands on Buckingham Palace for his new head quarters.
