I would like to point out that its not just my local council who are doing this, it’s happening across the country.
But I do take more of an interest in my local council and try and keep up-to-date with there polices.
Council housing was needed after the world war 2 dew the number of homes destroy by bombing and the pledge to remove the slumps from our town’s and cities.
In Brighton they bulldozes part of the town centre and put up a new shopping centre, conference centre and a cinema with 2 nightclubs.
Removing about 500 2-bed rooms fish mans cottages and moving the tenants to new council homes to the east of the town. These cottages would be worth about £250-300,000 at today’s prices.
The local council has always followed the latest fads or trends and does make some mighty gaffs.
It’s made up of labour and the green’s that believe what good for them is good for the rest of us.
I wish it were true.
So what is the point of council housing in the 2007?
Most people own to try to own their homes.
Most council tenants get a reduced market rent and try to buy there homes at a reduce price after a few years.
Few people in the communities meet the eligibility criteria for housing by the local councils.
The housing stock is old and in need of expensive repairs and being use by special interest groups has a way of gaining support.
They’re a haven for crime and drug dealers and seem to a track them.
Unlike most local services like the Police, schools and rubbish removal, we are all paying for something we have no access too.
So why are we being to ask to build and pay for more of them?
I think its time we put an end to council homes once and for all.
Sell off the remaining housing stock and use the money for the good of the whole community and not just those who central government tell us we have to continuously subsidized.
Like you would know what a good game of football is.
