I like Wallace Stevens’s  poetry – very much. His prose – where this comes from – is interesting to me only insofar as it gives us clues to his poetry. As he said in The Necessary Angel, he is not attempting any systematic argument, merely trying to point to truth in a different way. Which is what his poetry does.

It means nothing to me unless you explain what you meant by inner violence.

It says more about how you interpret it, than what it may or may not mean.
