Correct.
A better solution is emerging in a fast-moving situation. We don’t sign Article 50 until it suits us. That gives us time to work out the alternative trade policy which the Leave bozos forgot to offer. Once we’re a bit more aware of where our boat is heading, then press the button.
The alternative is economic chaos and a much poorer…[Read more]

Correct.
Norway was held up by Leave (aka Project Lie) as a shining model of a country which was no longer in the EU! And it’s a hell of a lot better than the trade area with Albania and Ukraine asked for by Michael Gove.
A better solution is emerging. We don’t sign Article 50 until it suits us. That gives us time to work out the alternative…[Read more]

Not my opiniion.
legally impossible too, apart from being very unwise indeed from the point of view of our living standards, unemployment, etc. We’re moving into enough crap as it is.
Leave the EU when it suits us, not anyone else.
It doesn’t suit us at this moment.
My feeling is that political opinion is moving this way, but the situation is…[Read more]

My feeling is that political opinion is moving this way, but the situation is so fast-moving it’s difficult to know where political opinion will be day-by-day.
My view is to press that exit button now is far too reckless.

I’m now starting to think the UK should not invoke Article 50, leaving the EU, for a while. It’s such an unwise and complicated decision, we’re still members of the EU, we could wait until we have a general election, or two, or three, maybe consider a second referendum, after a long enough time has passed for us to know what things are like, maybe…[Read more]

Pete, the EU is not in the giving mood to us. We had quite a privilged position (rebates, not in the eurozone, not part of Schengen – and that’s all about to go.
The EU is the biggest single economy in the world – we need a trading relationship with it, and when I say the Norway option I mean full access to the Single Market.
We’ve spent 40…[Read more]

I’m feeling a lot lighter re the EU.
A satisfactory solution is emerging, though some economic pain lies ahead because of the vote.
Brexiteers were telling us how well-off Norway was, so we seem to be heading towards a Norway-type solution. Still in Europe, member of the Single market, free movement of labour.
The people have spoken, but we…[Read more]

Thanks for your kind thoughts, Ms K.
I am sorry to hear about your son’s upset, and I’m glad a family feud has been avoided.
I am getting the increasing sense that your won’s worries may be ended soon., but I don’t think either Pete or you will be as happy as me.

Boris is about to show that all the Brexit voters can go and get stuffed. His government of London was regulation-lite and allowed rich Russian oligarchs etc to make London unaffordable for Londoners. He’s now about to do the same for the UK.
He and Gove are starting to say that they want more immigrants in, not less.
Daniel Hannan, the…[Read more]

Pete,
eu rules do stress free movement of labour. That’s why Gove and UKIP reject the Norway and Swiss solutions to the trade problem. But rules are meant to be adapted, especially eu rules. If a country feels overwhelmed, they will take emergency action even if it is illegal under eu rules, and the eu have to accept it – take Austria with the…[Read more]

Yes, pete.
But net immigration from non-EU countries is cumulatively far bigger than than that from the EU.
Hardworking young people from the EU are likely to fit into the UK well. We have a long history of absorbing immigrants successfully, and I welcome the thriving multi-cultural society which has grown up in the UK for many decades…[Read more]

BB and SHR have turned this RIP thread into a political and abusive thread, nobody else.
Brexiteers and Remain are almost united in revulsion at the murder of a defenceless mother and hard-working MP at the hands of a right-wing assassin. That’s only political to those whose politics are similar to those of the killer; which means precious few in…[Read more]
