in fact, the 1914 war has more memorials than any othe war – they’re dotted throughout the country.
Changing the teaching of history may be a better memorial

ouch tinks…that’s what happened to the Rosenbergs, US Communist spies in 1954. Mrs Rosenberg’s head started steaming and her eyes melted..teach them to spy..one commentator looked at his watch and said she would be frying in Hell about now…her two young children were watching..

I never liked Sir Jim, but I respect people like Mrs T who have met him and liked him. If she was duped, then she was hardly alone.
The whole case strikes me as bizarre. That doesn’t mean it’s false, but it is bizarre.

That sort of authoritarian figure is about the worst thing for this or any country.
What’s needed is an understanding of how this mess arose, or we’ll fall into the usual finger-pointing at the EU or Polish immigrants. Then a politics which can move to a situation where health and education cuts can be avoided.

momes,
you make the right points, though to tell you the truth it’s the mudslinging and witch hunting which interest me. It’s amazing that there hasn’t been more on this thread (give it more time, did I hear someone say?).

Yes, I read about that in my paper. One of many atrocities commited by radical Islam. They shoot their oppoents, tto, especially sufi priests. Sufi is a non-violent version of Islam, opposed to the salafis, who are the violent lot who want to impose strict sharia law.

Actually, the parties I went to in the 1960s were quite rowdy too. At the start of the decade, I remember all the grownups dancing in a ring as they sang the hokey-cokey (in, out, in out, shake it all about seemed to get a particularly loud laugh). Was there any groping, then??
Coping with Uncle Bertie may have been a necessity, though, given…[Read more]
