Being a football fan from the North East, I like all our main – I`ll probably get stick for this – teams to do well, and wish them all the best for the forthcoming season.
I agree Oss – they are different types of players though ; Rooney drops back into midfield to lose his markers , Shearer is more of an out and out striker .
Although I am a diehard mackem Shearer has been superb throughout his career – but shouldn’t he have gone to a decent team to win some trophies ???
YOUR JUST JEL COZ U HAVE NEVER HAD A DECENT STRIKER U HAD PHILLIPS BUT HE WAS SH1TE ALSO
AND ROONEY WILL NEVER BE AS GOOD A STRIKER AS SHEARER GOALS SPEAK LOUDER THAN A RUN AROUND A FIELD!! IF YOU DONT WANNA COMPAIR HIM TO SHEARER DONT CALL HIM A STRIKER IF U WANT TO COMPAIR HIM HEL COME SECOND EVERY TIME POOR ROONEY
rubbish in my opinion!
shearer was great, but i still think rooney will go down as a better player than him when all is said and done
Shearer was/is a one off.
A great striker for his club (any club) and country.
He could score brilliant goals with either foot and his head.
He was/is one of the BEST strikers England have had in a long time.
His strength was matched by his ability to read the game perfectly and to hold the ball.
His ability to shield the ball was perfection in itself.
He was no saint on the pitch, but show me a player who is and I`ll show him the door!
Rooney is a very, very good player and he is still young and still learning.
To argue over who is/was the best striker is pointless……….
They are as different as chalk and cheese.
And who said Shearer never dropped back to help the team? `B0llocks`, he did it all the time for his club and country.
Now stop all this childish dummy-spitting and lets just be thankful that Shearer & Rooney are English (they could have played for Scotland :P )
I for one, WILL be getting behind England in Germany, and that includes Rooney :D
