Firstly – Melody – I agree with you about the failings of those around this woman, in not realising the severity of her illness and acting upon it. Although to be fair, outwardly, she would hardly have been foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog, she may have simply appeared quiet and withdrawn.
Sian – no – not all murderers are ‘delusional and mentally ill’ which is why a murderer is someone who is legally defined as a person of SOUND MIND, who deliberately takes the life of another human being, with malice aforethought. In other words, at the time of commiting the murder, the perpetrator was deemed completely in possession of their mental faculties and aware of their own actions. Anger or momentary rage – do not count as loss of mental faculty.
This is in complete contrast to a person who takes life whilst deemed clinically insane and with a total loss of contact with reality, as would appear to be the situation in this instance, where the woman has indeed been detained under THE MENTAL HEALTH ACT.And what a poor tormented soul she must be.Sometimes, tragic things happen, where recourse to vengeance or punishment is futile. This is one of those times.

I have had post natal depression and it does affect the children, mine was only a mild case as it seems but I was horridly unhappy, surely someone would of seen that she was unhappy, there would of been steps made by her friends and family.
I don’t like how you assume that we are all uneducated in matters of the heart, we obviously know there is a mental problem, nobody in a normal state of mind would do this, all murderers are not well mentally.
At the end of the day, she is a murderer regardless of circumstance.
Life would of been hell for everyone close to her.
Actually, not only can psychotic episodes manifest suddenly, Sian, but in the tragic case under discussion, the woman was previously known to be suffering from PND. A neighbour commented on that very fact.
What I can’t grasp is your reasoning that the woman is mentally ill, whilst continuing to brand her as a murderer.
To quote good ole wikipedia, “Murder is the unlawful killing of a human person with malice aforethought.” As a person suffering from psychosis, having no contact with reality, it is improbable that the mother of these children was capable of malice aforethought. In her distorted reality, she may even have been saving her children from a worse fate – living in a world peopled by the demons and monsters of her imaginings.

what i would say is this, Were there any sign’s before she had the latest child ? Are we going to find out this is another case of the social services not doing their job ? Are we going to hear the same old “lessons will be learned” speech ? but what ever the reason there is just one simple question, would you ever let someone look after your children if you knew they done something like that even if it was 10,20 0r even 30 years ago because i wouldn’t and if someone told me they only done it becuase they were depressed would not make me feel any better. sorry she has to be locked up if guilty.So, you can understand someone – fully in possession of their sanity but unable to control their temper – shaking a baby ( which often results in death or don’t you read the news?) or throwing a baby into a cot resulting in injury (with – again – death as a frequent outcome) but be incapable of comprehending why someone who is SERIOUSLY MENTALLY ILL may be compelled to kill the ones they love?

And once again for the stupid. Post Natal Depression is something of a misnomer, as it covers the gamut from mild depression to severe psychosis. Insanity, lunacy, Barking fecking madness, call it what you will, but depression doesn’t even get a look in.
Howsoever, I realise i’m wasting my time and type attempting to enlighten the ill-informed intent on pouring opprobrium and worse, like paraffin on a bonfire, thrown onto which, only the tarred and feathered body of the mother will provide sufficient sacrifice.

Couldn’t agree more, too many women are getting away with murder because it’s the time of the month of its Post-Natal Depression It’s always someone elses or somethings fault. Never heard so much c0ck in my life. She should go down and stay down !
There are degrees of post-natal-depression as with every psychosis. The word ‘depression’ is misleading. For the woman to have reached such an extreme depth – way beyond common understanding – it is more than likely that she was suffering from delusions, at the very least.
If I’m disappointed in the cruel assumptions made above, sadly I’m not surprised by them.In the deepest darkest grip of psychotic nightmare, Pete, anybody is capable of anything. Gender doesn’t enter the equation -although even if it did, Mother Nature has proven time and again, that “The female of the species is more deadly than the male.”
Before the usual suspects come bearing pitchforks and torches, howling that nothing could ever compel them to such acts of atrocity, let them thank their gods that they obviously never descended into enough of a hell where the realities of life distorted into foul and warped conceptions, dreads and horrors, beyond the imaginings of Stephen King.If and when, sanity is restored to this poor mother – please pity her – because the knowledge of what she has done, will certainly turn her mad with grief!

I read my way through every topic on Current Affairs, and given my situation, a topic with the heading ‘Antibiotic Timebomb’ had to be investigated. But not over three – no – we’re into four – pages of repetitive postulating.
Message recieved – antibiotics are shyte and we’d do well to suck on a rabbit’s gonads instead. I’m sure you’ll understand if I carry on taking these ‘timebomb’ drug treatments in preference, as i’m rather fond of living.
