The most scary movie in the world …. EVER … was Invaders From Mars (1953).
The most scary TV series ….. EVER ….. was “Quatermass and the Pit” (1958)
They don’t scare you enough these days – those two will utterly terrify you.

This will have the effect of evening out the wear on the buttons and means that you won’t need to bother with the Super-Industrial strength Mr Sheen.

Cheeky git !!! OK I’ll go for the “wiser” option – nobody will believe THAT one
25 October, 2008 at 4:41 pm #384902It’s an interesting point that toybulldog raises. I’ve been on both sides of this. My first family were twins – one boy & one girl – and I played no part at all in planning their conception. My then wife simply decided that she wanted a family and nature took its course.
My second family – a daughter now aged 10 – was by contrast carefully thought about beforehand and her conception was “planned” (i.e. agreed to by both of us in advance).
Whilst I am close to all three of my children, I guess I am closer to my youngest than I am to my twins (who are now aged 30). Mind you this is probably unfair, as I am considerably older and wiser now that I was when they were born so maybe time has mellowed me somewhat.
However, the bottom line is that you never stop loving your children no matter what the circumstances were of their conception.
I’ve been typically stitched up by my lovely eldest daughter. She has just resigned from a job she had aboard a luxury yacht (Russian billionairre type). Unfortunately the boat is dry docked in Marseilles right now. Guess who volunteered to drive down there next weekend and pick her up???
Having got me on the hook, she then told me that she has “simply loads” of clothes and stuff to bring back. So my car will be packed to the roof with her stuff. THEN she said that she had never been to Switzerland. “Any chance we could go back via Switzerland Daddy” says she ever so sweetly.
I don’t know …. the things you do for your children eh???
25 October, 2008 at 4:24 pm #384702I can see the point you’re getting at but I’m not fully able to agree with you.
Microsoft Office 2007 IS available on a free 30 day trial period and has been ever since it was released (in February last year). Therefore you CAN try before you buy. If you don’t like it, you can uninstall it and revert back to your previous version or alternative software, whichever.
They have many versions of both Office and XP designed to suit every pocket. If you want the “full” version you pay more, if you can accept a slightly less function enabled version, then it is considerably cheaper. You can also buy heavily discounted upgrades from previous versions of their software.
Currently, pirated versions of Office 2007 are avasilable in China at 50 pence copy – for the “full” version. this is just plain theft, pure and simple.
I know that MS spent a huge amount of time and resource in producing Office 2007 as I was part of their development and Beta testing programme – I got a free copy as my fee !!! They spent millions on developing it and surely they can be allowed to recover this investment plus a commercial profit from its legitimate sale???
If thieves were simply allowed to steal a manufacturer / developer’s software when they felt like it, what incentive is there for the software to be created in the first place??? After all those who steal it don’t put anything back for other computer users to benefit from.
25 October, 2008 at 4:12 pm #384742Fine …. but would you mete out the same punishment to her as well (“her” being the dead child’s mother) ???
After all it could be argued that she carries as much responsibility as he does, for allowing him to abuse the child over a considerable period of time.

Maybe it could be re-named “Angle of the North” ????
25 October, 2008 at 11:48 am #384739Yes it is hard to believe and yes they undoubtedly ARE seriously evil …. but the appalling thing is that they aren’t alone in doing this sort of thing to children.
How many times over the years have right minded JC members posted stories of child abuse going on? Too many happeniungs – that’s what.
OK the male had an extremely low IQ; OK the female appears to have acquiesced in the attacks on her child (which fact alone is horrifying). What can be done about it in reality???
Sadly, nothing. Look around you in the town / village where you each live. I’ll bet you that somewhere in your locality there is a child being let’s just say ill treated by its parents.
No we don’t have to accept it or agree with it, but yes we have to accept that this abuse happens and will go on happening. Until we have a sort of police state where people are only allowed to breed when the State says they can and even then under controlled conditions …. child abuse will continue.
There are times (and this is one of them) when I frankly despair for the collapse in moral standards in what we laughingly call “society” these days.
