Got no time for banks and we would be better off without them. They make millions for themselves and the government but we dont see any benifit. We late for a payment they charge us. We draw money out they charge us. they want to charge us for having an account as well. Its out bloody money for gods sake not theirs. They are using our money to make themselves moneys and if we are lucky and kiss their butts they might let us have some of it back for a small fee.
Let them all go to the wall and let us all stuff our money under the mattress :DBut i would agree with pete on one point. the birds at my local lloyds are bloddy hot and id pay good money to see them do cuddles and hugs
Let me put the balancing argument. I’ve had a bank account with the same bank since I was 21 – in those days that was the age of majority – so i’ve had the account for some 42 years.
For the first decade or so they charged me every month based on the number of cheques I wrote (many) and payments made in (few). If I became overdrawn (pretty often at the end of the month) they charged me interest on the overdraft.
I got cute and arranged for an overdraft limit so that I could ”officially” become overdrawn occasionally without incurring penalty charges – just paid the appropriate amount of interest for my unsecured borrowing. I don’t see this as an issue now and i didn’t see it as one then.
I forget quite how long ago – maybe 15-20 years or so – they provided me with free banking so long as my account remained in credit. It isn’t rocket science to work that one out and I can say that I cannot recall paying ANY bank charges for certainly the last 25 years or so – could be more.
My point is that IF you are sensible with your finances and don’t just write a cheque when you don’t have the money in the account to meet it on presentation, then you get truly free banking. So I have all the benefits of a bank account – cheque cards; cheque books; monthly statements; online banking; bills paid automatically by direct debit; and so on and so forth …… without having to pay a penny for this. I call that a pretty good deal.
IF you use the system properly, banks will provide you with this service totally free. If you break the ”rules” then they will charge you accordingly. I don’t see that this is ”bad” and indeed they can make all the profit they want to as far as I’m concerned.
2 October, 2008 at 2:46 pm #377154Surprise surprise …. it has now been cancelled and they will hold the ”inset” course in the school hall.
Poor old staff …. no cushy trip to Marbella. Mind you it IS a bit of a dump anyway and nobody who could afford better would go there voluntarily.
2 October, 2008 at 8:34 am #376911To the JustChat member that e-mailed me a Birthday card: Thank you. OK It was several months late, but it is the thought that counts.
Speaking of which, I didn’t click on the link to open it as it almost certainly was riddled with viruses.
2 October, 2008 at 8:28 am #338839GWENNY UPDATE:
I am sad to have to report that there have been no sightings of little Gwenny for a long time. Frankly I am worried for her safety and hope that she hasn’t had to be admitted into a home for geriatrics or anything like that.
It’s such a pity because Mrs PB isn’t getting as much exercise as she used to – no more running round the house screaming – no more jumping onto chairs & tables bellowing like a wounded Heffalump “Il topo …. Il topo” Both she and daughter can now settle down on the sofa completely undisturbed, and chomp chocolates to their heart’s desire.
Life is certainly less interesting without the presence of Gwenny.
The irony is that, having invested a considerable sum in purchasing a selection of mousetraps, and donating my best Organic Peanut Butter to bait them, I earned loads of Brownie points (AND a mention in dispatches to Italy) from Senior Management.
However, now that Gwenny has disappeared and the mouse traps have not caught her, I am held responsible for what is NOW described as unnecessary expenditure. The money (I am rather forcefully told) could have been better spent on buying more chocolates.
I am seriously thinking of popping down to the local pet shop and buying a rather nice furry little mouse and hiding it in Senior Management’s side of the bed one evening.
THAT’LL teach her !!!

2 October, 2008 at 8:11 am #376915There are two possible reasons:
1. the volume control on their computer is a) muted or b) turned down too low.
2. The batteries on their hearing aids are flat.
The solution is to a) turn on /up the computer volume or b) replace the hearing aid batteries.
I hope that the 7 Waves radio (potential) listeners fin these tips useful.
1 October, 2008 at 5:45 pm #376904I was most likely far too zonked out on Cappucino to notice any of this – or maybe it was the heat.
BTW Bon bon …. I wish I really was 10 all over again, ….. only knowing what I know now (which isn’t a lot!).
Anyway for those that did …. thank you and for those that didn’t – horse’s heads.
BTW: Is the Victor Meldrew impression convincing???
1 October, 2008 at 3:59 pm #376900For the record (well spotted Cath) my birthday WAS in August – not October.
Also, for the record …. nobody remembered it and I didn’t get any birthday good wishes from anybody in JustChat.
Also, for the record, I was most upset and hurt and it spoiled the whole day.
Also for the record, i haven’t forgotten and I hate you all (especially DOA for rubbing salt into the wound)….so there !!!!!
