What you say Cath makes a lot of sense and I think that you’ve (typically if I may say so) put in in a very sensitive, kind and caring way.
I will add this observation. Lots of chatroom (and Board) users openly discuss their ‘private’ lives and frequently disclose details about themselves – forgetting that what they type is visible to everybody. Even in PM / PC you cannot always rely on your good ”friend” to keep their mouths shut and not gossip to their ”friends” in turn. Pretty soon everybody is aware of what may be intensely private information.
Whilst I fully understand that for many, this is their principal form of social interaction and in a way they are seeking (and getting) support from their online ”friends”. However, (there is always a ”however” eh?) the personal details that they disclose very often get used against them by a small minority who appear to derive some sort of vicarious pleasure from hurting or belittling others.
The bottom line is that if you don’t want to run the risk of something private coming back to haunt you …… don’t share it with others online.

I have to agree that “beer goggles” really work. I’ve often noticed over the years that as you drink more at a ”dinner” the waitresses become progressively more attractive.

There seems little (if any) point in doing this. After all if somebody has decided to kill themselves, they will always find a method of doing it. It’s a bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has jumped (as it were).
