Well it looks as though Alan Johnston (the Home Secretary) has apparently made a sensible decision for once. He has reviewed all the ‘medical evidence’ put before him by the defence team and decided that it is insufficient to justify him refusing the extradition order.
I notice that the so-called ‘autistic’ hacker hasn’t bothered to deny doing this, far from it – he positively glorifies in his hacking exploits – but he uses as an excuse that he was merely looking for evidence of “UFOs”. Yeah right sure he was !!!
The latest press releases from his ‘defenders’ in an attempt to keep him from having to face justice for his self-admitted misdeeds, is that if he is sent to the US “he will commit suicide”. What a cracking defence, one that all criminals can use freely …..”If you proseciute me for my crimes I will kill myself”.
Now we move to Stage 28 – an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
Oh and just in case you felt that all this isn’t YOUR problem ….. don’t forget that YOU are all collectively paying for this circus !!

Cas, I think you have hit the nail right on the head here. Remember the Media usually has an interest in promoting its own agenda and will often shamelessly distort the ‘facts’ in a ‘story’ (or only selectively report them) in order to make its point.
Bottom line is that they constantly need to increase their circulation (i.e. sell more papers) and are as relentlessly driven by a desire for profits as any other commercial organisation.
That said, I find it interesting that little if any criticism is ever directed at Roman Catholic couples who refuse to practice contraception on religious grounds and consequently amongst whom large families are the ‘norm’.
After all, a headline saying “Roman Catholic couples in benefits grab” will probably alienate a substantial number of readers – more than would be gained by the ‘story being published in that way.
I know I ought not to say this, but …….. every time the place name ( Cockermouth) is mentioned on the news, I can feel the newsreaders trying desperately hard to stifle a snigger.
It must be a dead giveaway if you’re gay and live there???
Many many years ago, in my childhood, I used to watch the TV series called “Callan”. It was an absolute ‘classic’ and incredibly well acted – with Edward Woodward in the leading role.
Years later, when I was a student, I had a holiday job working as a ‘chauffeur’ for the BBC. I had the priviledge of driving Edward Woodward home several times and I can tell you that he wasn’t in the least bit like his screen persona in “Callan”….. much to my disappointment. He was a really nice guy, chatty, amusing and an excellent conversationalist.
He of course won’t remember me (he can’t now anyway) but I shall remember him with great admiration. A true professional.
Apparently, his mother gave her son her suite (hirsute …. Geddit ???)….. oh well please yourselves !

I predicted that the gruesome twosome would get through again this week and by the end of this eveninng you’ll see that I was right and they do. It’s all about viewer ratings and money right now. Later on it will get more serious and sheer talent will be what succeeds.

That said, I’m really sorry that Jamie ‘Afro’ got voted off last night. He is a natural at this stuff and has a tremendous stage presence. My guess is that being watched by 15-18 million people every Saturday and Sunday for the last few weeks won’t harm his professional carreer one little bit. (Simon looked really gutted didn’t he???)
OK … my prediction for next week. The ‘gruesome twosome’ will get voted through yet again. Anybody feel like disagreeing with me???? Sarah – got anything to say??? Remember at this stage, it is all about TV ratings and advertising revenue. This show is making millions for ‘SyCo’ (Simon Cowell’s production company) and is beating the BBC in the ratings game hands down.
No way will the producers etc allow this particular cash cow to be slaughtered …… yet !!!!!
From my reading of the press reports, it appears that his “Asperger’s Syndrome” or his “autism” is a recently discovered reason, put forward as a defence to his being extradited to the United States. You will of course have to form your own conclusions as to whether this is a concocted story to escape justice; or whether he is in fact an innocent person suffering from and driven by some dreadful mind altering illness.
The fact is that he has been accused of causing tremendous amounts of damage to US based computer systems – which fact he doesn’t deny. He has offered an excuse for doing this (the search for establishment cover-ups) but does this REALLY explain why he caused this amount of loss and damage to the US???
In terms of his being a ‘malignant hacker’ …. do you think that there is a comparison between his activities and those of the minority of chatroom users who spend their online time abusing other users and scrolling chatrooms with obscenities etc etc.???
Well I’m delighted that my cynicism has struck a chord with so many on here.
The underlying point is that when you read some of these Media stories, at first glance you are invited to experience a sense of ‘outrage’ along the lines of “how stupid can they be” or “how unfair” and so on.
However, a huge number of these ‘stories’ are written with exactly this purpose in mind. They present a heavily slanted or one-sided version of events specifically intended to provoke the reader, rather than to expose the ‘truth’.
If you apply a modicum of common sense to the situation described to you – ask “What would I do in a similar situation” or “Why did they pick on this person apparently ‘out of the blue’ or is there more behind it than meets the eye” …. chances are that you will get somewhere near the ‘truth’.
