can anyone tell me why when I play a video from any site ie youtube the video keeps stopping and starting, I use vista and have 1.5gig of ram in my laptop, also installed is the latest version of adobe flash player, my other laptop does not do this and it has lower specs than this one.
It is partly a function of your ‘connection speed’ at the time you’re playing the video and partly to do with YouTube ‘buffering’ the video – i.e. sending it down the pipe to you in ‘chunks’
If the ‘chunks’ don’t get down the pipe to your computer fast enough, then the video player will play all the file it has downloaded at that point and then stop and wait for the next ‘chunk’ to be available for playing.
This usually happens when a number of other customers (of your ISP) in your area are all using the internet at the same time and therefore there is only a limited amount of bandwidth available for each of you to use.

Undertakers announced today that following the recent death of Keith Floyd, they wouldn’t be embalming his body before burial …. as it was already pickled in alcohol.
21 September, 2009 at 9:35 pm #416129Excellent idea Martin – except that the lycra clad fascists would immediately start moaning that they were being unfairly discriminated against.
Anyway some stupid bugger would want to start “learning lessons” again and set up a whole new Governemt department (at our cost) to do so.
The fact is that bicyclists are a menace on the roads – to pedestrians and drivers alike. we should treat them like grey squirrels – declare them to be vermin and put a bounty on their heads.
21 September, 2009 at 9:00 am #41546921 September, 2009 at 8:55 am #415629Keith Floyd was an amusing guy …. but a world class cook / chef …… not really. I watched his TV cookery shows for many years, not to learn more about cooking, but to see if he would fall over drunk before the end of the programme.
Many was the time when his ‘famous’ recipe simply didn’t work or he was too pissed to cook it properly – every time he would reach for his ever present glass of booze and have yet another “slurp”.
It is amusing in a sad sort of way that AFTER his death all the luvvies are coming out of the woodwork to praise him for his ‘inimitable style’ when during his life they slagged him off for being a monumental piss artist.
I shall miss his drunken rants both off and on camera.
21 September, 2009 at 8:48 am #416125This “new” policy, imposed on us by the cycling Nazis, is a perfect opportunity for the motorist (who pay taxes for the privilege) to mow down militant cyclists (who DON’T pay taxes for the privilege).
The next time one of these lycra clad fascists zooms up the inside lane illegally, swiftly jerk your steering wheel to your left and bump them off their infernal machines into the gutter … where they belong!

There aren’t any “decent” free anti virus applications out there. True there are loads of freebies but they all seem to lack something or other.
it may be timely and regular virus definition updates; it may be a slow and cumbersome ‘engine’; it may be that they only detect the most obvious viruses; it may be that they have difficulty in removing ‘found’ viruses; it may be a tendency to give ‘false positives’;it may be a combination of some or all of these things.
With anti-virus software, the bottom line is that there’s no such thing as a free lunch.
10 September, 2009 at 8:53 am #414969After all these years moderating the Boards ….. I’ve finally decided to confess.
The plain fact is that I am Kate and I always have been.
So there you have it – I’m not really PB at all, I’m Kate and I wear the clothes to prove it.
BTW: I saw my doctor last week for my regular check-up and she didn’t express any concern over what some might say is delusional behaviour. In fact she said I was acting perfectly normally for a teenager.
