Are you kidding?????? The whole country went totally mad when they realised they were through. Shame????…. what’s that? They don’t know the meaning of the word.

During the three hours or so of telephone calls from my house to just about every relative that ever there was, the constant theme was people driving around like madmen hooting their car horns in delight; the streets were thronged from Domodossola in the North to Aceri in the South; church bells ringing; even cousin Franco ”The horse’s head” was moved to buy drinks all round in the village bar in Perdifumo.

You have to admit, it was a fantastic bit of theatre though complete with face contorted in ”pain”, rolling around in ”agony”, tears, the full works. The man has missed his vocation – he should be on the stage.

Its a question that has never been satisfactorily answered…………………. but like marilyn monroe and the Kennedys…………it will remain an unanswered question in the annuals of history……………………

Just another unsolved case………………… no one wins in the end…………..

OK to take your point a wee bit more seriously then.

If what you suggest is true, there would have to be an enormous amount of pre-planning to pull this one off. The emergency services in Paris would have to be involved including all the ambulance drivers – as how could anybody predict with absolute certainty which ambulance would attend the crash site??? If the wrong one attended with a crew that wasn’t ”in on it” then they would simply whisk her to the nearest suitable hospital.

You claim that the ambulance (in the full view of the world’s press) deliberately and for no discernable reason drove past several hospitals that could have taken her and ended up in one some distance from the crash site.

I don’t want to scream ”Prove it” but is this something that you are simply repeating or do you happen to know which hospitals they went past and which hospital finally took her in?????

Yes it does rather doesn’t it? I was about to switch into full rant mode and berate all Local Authorities for being total bastards and wholly support this very principled lady for witholding her Council Tax….. when I thought ”Hold on a mo” you can’t just pick & choose what laws you will or will not obey for therein lies the road to anarchy.

So now I am trapped by my utter dislike of petty Local Authority bureaucrats on the one hand and my natural instinct to uphold the rule of law on the other. Hmmmmm !!!

I guess I’ll have to admit to being hoist with my own petard on this one.

This is true……….they still havent explained why they took her past hospitals that could have given emergency treatment ………

She was still alive when they took her from the car ……………..

Yes ”they” (the ambulance drivers???) knowingly took he past simply dozens of hospitals didn’t they? I guess that the emergency services must have been in on it as well. I’m only surprised that they didn’t finish her off in the ambulance – but maybe they did.

She was wearing a seatbelt, and she sustained no injuries at all in the crash. ”They” got her into the ambulance and beat her head in once she was inside. Then they drove her around a bit to make it look good and finally arrived at the furthest away hospital from the crash site.

Meanwhile back in the real world………………….

Mrs PB is Italian (as some of you know already). In the last couple of minutes of the game she couldn’t bear the tension and ran off and locked herself in the bathroom.

When Italy scored from that pretty dodgy and badly acted fall I bellowed ”YESSSSSSSSSSS!!” and she shouted down “Did they score???”

Unfortunately I told her that the Australians scored a goal in the last few seconds ans won 1-0. She burst into tears and it took me a long time to persuaade her that Italy really won and it was my Englich sense of humour. Silly woman shouldn’t have taken it all so seriously !!!

My lawyers are expecting a Divorce Petition any day now.

    I hate bloody football.

This topic sure is thought provoking huh?

I have to say I come down on the side of personal responsibility – i.e. people taking responsibility personally for the choices that they make in their lives, be they good or bad.

This blaming ”society” for all the ills that befall us really is baloney. To paraphrase the words of Margaret Thatcher “Society??? There is no Society”.

My other observation is this. In order to fully appreciate the awfulness of some of the things that people do it is often helpful to carefully and logically walk yourself through the thought processes that they themselves must have gone through before committing the act in question (whatever it is).

We all too often simply look at the ‘crime’ itself and its after effects and react to that alone. This CAN lead to the mindset that it wasn’t the criminal’s fault – it was their background, etc etc.

Fine….. an interesting reprise of history. But all this was long ago, long before you and I were born, long before our fathers were born and probably long before our grandfathers were born. This stuff is all in the dim and distant past.

You can go on and on regurgitating history and apportioning blame but it’s now the 21st Century. Time to let it go and move on.

The US won’t talk to Hamas because Hamas is an admitted terrorist organisation. In fact nobody else will talk to them either – and that includes Arab countries as well as Western countries. Even the soppy old EU refuses to send any money at all to the Hamas ‘government’ as they will not support terrorism.

Hamas is a part of the problem not part of the solution. All this insistence on negotiation is simply another way to achieve their aims and try to secure what they cannot obtain by any other means. In the meantime they occupy themselves with cross border raids, suicide bombings and rocket attacks. These guys are not just out of control, they are uncontrollable – even by their own so-called Police authority.

If they truly wanted a peaceful settlement, which pretty much everybody doubts, then they wouldn’t have just carried out this attack and kidnap. They must have known that it would guarantee Israeli retaliation.

Nobody in the world believes that the Israelis are simply going to release all the Palestinians they currently hold in jail – so it is a pretty pointless ‘demand’ to make. I reckon that the attack was carried out specifically to provoke the inevitable Israeli response and get further world media coverage for the terrorists. Let’s face it, as a military exercise it had no siustainable objective and was frankly an exercise in futility.

You could make a livng writing lurid tales of derring do, who led the attack, Stallone or Swartzanegger.

Sure they didn’t pick up a tank and carry it back through the tunnel. after you give the impression there were swarms of them.

Mock away dear boy! But you know what I find interesting about all this is Hamas trying to distance itself from this attack. It was exceedingly well planned over quite a long period of time, and extremely professionally executed.

The israeli Army are certainly not easy to get the better of but these guys managed to do it relatively easily. It is obvious that the Hamas leadership knew all about it, so why not claim credit for it???

What’s the betting that the Israeli Army will now cross the border in force and exact retribution on the terrorists???

I have to say Mr B that I fully agree with Slayer on this one. It seems that those who seek to attack the US or the West always hark back to a highly selective version of events that happened a couple of centuries ago – like slavery – and then beat us all over the head with the guilt stick.

Maybe it’s time to let it go and join the rest of us in the 21st Century???
