Yup I’d say that this is a safe bet. Uncle Max sure has a way of manipulating the taboid press on behalf of his clients to gain them maximum advantage eh?
18 April, 2009 at 10:50 pm #395455I couldn’t agree more. The entire press handling of this matter has been grossly prejudicial to put it mildly.
The plain fact is that the Police were placed in an impossible position.
If they stood back and allowed the ‘protestors’ (and their anarchist mates) to do their thing by criminally damaging buildings; assaulting city workers; threatening and intimidating members of the public; and so on …. they would have been flayed alive by the media for inaction; failure to do their jobs and so on.
Police chose to clamp down on the ‘protestors’ and corralled them into an area where they could NOT run riot and rampage around setting fire to cars & buildings (as they usually and inevitably do in these ‘protests’) ….. and so they become the focus for everybody with an axe to grind to submit complaints and allegations to the PCA.
Interesting how the female on the news this-evening, who made a formal complaint to the PCA, first sold her story to the tabloids. Once the fee had been agreed …. THEN she made her PCA complaint.
This stuff is the same old “bash the Bill” story that we hear year in and year out every time the lefty lunatics take to the streets for a fun day out.
18 April, 2009 at 5:53 pm #395453“Witnesses described him as ‘dazed’ and ‘stumbling’ walking along the road before he collapsed.” (the last line of the UTube video clip).
According to one press report, he was a chronic alcoholic and was in fact thoroughly pissed when he had his several confrontations with the Police.
His ‘family’ are up in arms about their ‘loss’ when in fact he has been living rough on the streets for several years and currently temporarily resided in a hostel in the Charing Cross Road. It appears that they had totally disowned him and had’t seen him for years.
No doubt they will now want to claim the usual enormous amount of compensation from all of us – sorry, from the Metropolitan Police.

If you do nowt wrong what ya gotta worry about
Who decides what’s wrong? The government? The courts?
The problem with this sort of legislation is that it usually ends up being used for purposes its legislators didn’t imagine like the RIPA (Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act ) act. Which was brought in to combat terrorism yet got used by local councils to spy on parents they thought might be sending their kids to a school outside their cachement area, as well as dog fouling and littering. It allows for The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, The Food Standards Agency, The Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce, The Post Office and the NHS to spy on you if they want too.
So…………………… it might be ok for you to believe that if you do “nowt” wrong you have nothing to worry about, but the evidence doesn’t seem to back you up when it comes down to what the government actually does.
Yes … but the things you quote are WRONG! and the people doing them are breaking the law.
Claiming that you live at an address close to an over-subscribed school, in order to get a placing for your child to which you aren’t entitled, is WRONG. By lying on the application form (providing a false address or wrongly using somebody else’s address) unfairly deprives another child of a place to which they are entitled and is WRONG.
Permitting a dog under your control to sh1t on a pavement where other have to walk is WRONG. Why on earth do people think they have the God given right to act irresponsibly and then moan when a Local Authority seeks to find them and punish them for what is a totally anti-social act???
The plain fact is that IF you comply with the law, then you have no need to fear that your e-mails may be stored and accessed. IF you are a criminal or a terrorist then you should fear “RIPA” and maybe not use e-mails and the like to organise killings of others.

….They go on about how you should be eating more healthier, and tell you what foods to get, but that’s just it, it’s too expensive for a lot of people..
So let them eat cake !

In fact Pete, you’re quite right. I really used to believe that ‘own brand’ products were somehow inferior and wouldn’t be seen dead buying them. i’ve changed my views.
4 April, 2009 at 3:12 pm #394320I absolutely agree that prices have shifted upwards – but not across the board.
There is a ‘lag’ effect between for example a crop failure and the resultant price increase – sometimes by several months.
Yes rice has gone up and so has pasta & flour – driven by drought / natural ‘disasters etc. They’ll come back down in the long term.
If you shop wisely you can keep food bills under control. I buy brisket of beef now and slow cook it whereas I would have bought rib of beef and roasted it. I now regularly do lots of casseroles, hotpots and ‘stews’ as well as currying chicken. Neck of lamb is both cheap and tasty and great in curries or ‘stews’.
Also, I’ve switched to buying a lot of supermarket own brand products, which I would have turned my nose up at before. I’ve found them to be just as good as the branded item – as long as you select wisely.
3 April, 2009 at 10:12 am #394235Are you joking Bas – they couldn’t even organise the “team” photograph at the end properly. they’ll never be able to count above 20.
Mind you “G20” sounds really modern and buzzy – “G23” almost sounds too ‘calculated’ – as if some were excluded

The whole thing has been hijacked by unwashed dole spongers and the Legs Akimbo dance troupe, funded by the Fairtrade Organic Lesbian Collective.
Very true …. and they will all be out in force today pursuing their individual and pointless agendas.
The latest ‘demo scam’ I hear is for ‘activists’ to liberally smear stage (fake) blood on their heads and then make a beeline for the press photographers so that they can make loud allegations of “police brutality” backed up by displaying their ‘injuries’.
Also, it has been reported that a number of the more violent anarchists – the ones who are desperate to stir up street riots – appear to have come over here from abroad.
Amongst those spotted were members of Italy’s Guerrigilieri Anomali (Anomalous Warriors); the French Anarchist Autonomist Group; Germany’s ANTIFA (an anti-fascist umbrella group); and Attac (a Left-wing group with links across Europe).
I wonder if they could be persuaded to set fire to the tents of the peace protestor’s camp and save us all a lot of trouble clearing up the mess afterwards???
