Great idea WooHoo …. you could make an absolute fortune out of this you know.
An inflatable Chav Santa, suitably attired with the latest Chav accessories, and fitted with flashing coloured lights and mounting brackets so that it can be hung externally from the windows of a tower block or council house.
We’d have to think of an inappropriate name for it though – Father Christmas is far too normal.
Maybe we could persuade Martin to start up another section of JustChat – and call it JustChav. It could have a whole range of Chavvy accessories for every festive occasion. Think of the marketing possibilities ….. the mind boggles!!!
22 December, 2008 at 11:08 pm #387976If my memory serves me correctly, it was the Sunday Sport that ran the headline (and story) “World War 2 Bomber Found on the Moon” ….. not a London bus.
As you would expect, this story was taken sufficiently seriously by Media geeks around the world that it caused a major storm of denial and factual articles everywhere to PROVE that the story was rubbish. They published incontrovertible evidence that there was absolutely NO bomber of any type on the moon.
The following week the Sunday Sport published another front page article under the headline “World War 2 Bomber Mysteriously Vanishes” claiming that the entire thing was a conspiracy and that the bomber had been deliberately removed and used all the ‘evidence’ published by the Media during the week to prove it.
Fantastic humour ….. but the Media geeks simply didn’t get it.

……..People come from all over to see this pig.. Jeez.. I have a dog that can walk backwards whilst reciting the lords prayer, and even Viz weren’t interested in that story!!
Viz never was a stylish mag anyway, so it’s no surprise that they and their semi-literate readers wouldn’t recognise a reversing dog if they saw one – whether it recited religious texts or not.
You should have tried Private Eye – they have a far better appreciation of the absurd.
22 December, 2008 at 6:20 pm #387960Coloured lights – Chavvy ….. but not flashing less so.
However, “Bah Humbug” as a Christmas statement implies a knowledge of Charles Dickens and is therefore definitely NOT Chavvy.
Well done Quiet Man and welcome to the world of non commercial and non Chavvy Christmas.
21 December, 2008 at 10:09 am #387956In which case Dawny, you are hereby declared to be living in a Chav free zone. Well done !
21 December, 2008 at 12:20 am #387954You have a good point there Sarah, maybe the credit crunch HAs intervened.
A house around a mile from ours was unanimously voted “Charver of the year” for two years running. This was because the owner had literally covered every part of the house in strings of flasjing coloured lights as well as having some 15 or so illuminated Santas; reindeer; and an assortment of disney type characters climbing all over it.
The ultimate was an enormous illuminated Santa with several reindeer pulling his sleigh along the ridge of the roof.
This year …… nothing, absolutely nothing at all. I know that they still live there as the “Mr Whippy” ice cream van is still parked in their front garden. Bloody shame really as it afforded loads of amusement and derisory remarks from all the locals.
18 December, 2008 at 9:03 am #387933BTW: There have been a spate of e-mails recently that appear to come from Microsoft – but in fact do not.
Here is their security warning:
Recognize and avoid fraudulent e-mail to Microsoft customers:
If you receive an e-mail message that claims to be distributing a Microsoft security update, it is a hoax that may contain malware or pointers to malicious Web sites. Microsoft does not distribute security updates via e-mail.The Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) uses PGP to digitally sign all security notifications. However, it is not required to read security notifications, security bulletins, security advisories, or install security updates. You can obtain the MSRC public PGP key at https://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/pgp.mspx.
To receive automatic notifications whenever Microsoft Security Bulletins and Microsoft Security Advisories are issued or revised, subscribe to Microsoft Technical Security Notifications on http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/notify.mspx.
So if you receive an e-mail offering a “fix” to an Internet Explorer (or any other) Windows problem, DO NOT click any links in the e-mail to obtain them.
18 December, 2008 at 12:35 am #387932Further to the above – I’ve just received this mail from Microsoft:
Download urgent security update for Internet Explorer
Today Microsoft released an urgent security update for Windows Internet Explorer. Because the flaw may expose computers to remote code execution, the severity rating for this security update is critical.
From the moment we learned of the issue, Microsoft has been working around the clock to respond to this situation and provide a security update that helps protect our customers.
If you have turned on Automatic Updates, your computer will install the security update automatically. If you don’t use Automatic Updates, go to http://update.microsoft.com. This update might cause your computer to restart.
For more information on this update, see the bulletin summary. For more information on how to protect your PC, visit the Microsoft Security At Home site.
17 December, 2008 at 11:02 am #387901Thank you Cath for your kind comments, and may I also add my personal thanks and congratulations to all involved in last night’s Christmas quiz for the superb way in which it was conducted.
I loved the friendly atmosphere and the good natured rivalry between the two teams. Wern’t some of the questions difficult though? They even defied Googling for an answer (I know ‘cos I tried).
There are three people that I would like to record a special thank you to:
ForumHostGM for all her hard work and unflagging support in getting everybody to the starting line on time;
Aaron Hayes who compered the quiz last night in such a friendly and professional way and made the whole evening tremendous fun for everybody;
and particularly to ForumHostCL who originally came up with the idea for a “radio quiz” and set it up with Aaron and has been a driving force in the background throughout.
I don’t know the amount we all raised yet, but I do know that seeing everybody supporting McMillan Nurses was incredibly heartwarming. We all know someone who is dying of cancer or who has died of it, and supporting these nurses in their amazing and heartrending work is a really wonderful thing to do.
Thank you all for your tremendous support.
17 December, 2008 at 10:42 am #387931There will always be so-called security flaws in Windows (all versions); Internet Explorer; Windows Media Player and so on, just as there will always be people out there trying to steal your personal information for their own (usually criminal) purposes.
Why??? Because it is incredibly tempting for “hackers” to spend (collectively) thousands of man hours to try and find ‘weaknesses’ in the software and exploit them. Sheer weight of numbers indicate that sooner or later they will find yet another way of beating Microsoft and enjoying their 15 minutes of internet fame.
Yes you can always use other browsers if you want to – but this is no guarantee of safety. You will be far more secure if you use an up to date firewall and anti-virus protection and regularly scan your computer for any malware that might have infected it.
For example, most ‘spam’ these days originate from “bot nets” i.e. innocent computer users that have had their computers infected and used to forward on spam mails.
