Any time now isn’t it? Does the gran-to-be get nervous? I’m sure we’ll hear about it when it happens (joins Rubes in waiting for Mrs T and her news…”champagne” is on ice, in quotes as it’s the English one from a nearby vineyard whose bubbly knocked spots of the French in last year’s awards…and rather nice it is too :D )

You’ve been in France too long…

or maybe not long enough if you don’t realise it was a joke

but who is being the bigot here? me because I live in France or you for having to point out that France is a different place to live?

Oh please, knock that chip off your shoulder…my comment was also a joke but I guess you missed that.

Fact: France IS a different place to live. How the hell does pointing that out make me a bigot? If you’re going to pick a fight with someone on a message board at least make it something worth fighting for and pick it with someone who cares.

I cook most things from scratch as I have a compromised liver and need to keep my intake of toxins to a minimum. I do buy some convenience foods but I am a label expert, partly because of the above, partly because t’other half is a diabetic so we need to keep on top of fat and sugar content and partly because of allergies.

However many things that people think must be bad because they have a chemical-sounding name aren’t at all, whereas other things that sound natural aren’t and can be worse for you than those chemical-sounding names.

As far as methyl cellulose goes, if you’ve ever taken a coated tablet or capsule, you’ve probably ingested mc; if you’ve ever drunk a milkshake you may well have ingested mc; if you’ve ever eaten icecream you may well have ingested mc; if you wear cosmetics or use liquid soap or shower gel, you may well have absorbed mc through your skin…and if you’ve ever had Burger King onion rings you have definitely ingested mc!

Have you been conversing with young people again?

Lol…my “whatever” is different to the young uns though…theirs is a “talk to the hand, the face ain’t listening” kind of whatever, mine is a shrug the shoulders, don’t sweat the small stuff kind of whatever.

And I am young…in my head anyway

Methylcellulose is also completely natural, from plants, soluble and used to treat various colon disorders…I can think of worse things to have in my food…saccharin, aspartame, hydrogenated vegetable fats and on and on.

I remember when wallpaper paste used to be made with flour, didn’t stop my mum from baking cakes with it.

The phrase “trick or treat” may be relatively new but when I was a child (yes I can remember that far back – just!) we used to get dressed up and go around the neighbours wishing them a happy halloween…one of our neighbours always had a large bowl (I think it was an old baby’s bath bowl) of cold water with apples and onions, we’d have to close our eyes and see which we managed to get. Another neighbour used to make her own toffee apples then hang them at different lengths from the washing line, we had to try to eat a whole apple with our hands behind our backs. Other neighbours would just have bowls of sweets for us to dip into. A bit different to today’s trick or treat but celebrating Halloween was here before the American influence.
