I think there is something that COULD be done actually, and its not really rocket science

We go back to what the meaning of “equality” used to mean before left wing academia got hold of it, we treat everyone of every colour the same and stamp out modern racism in the form of positive discrimination, favouritism of ethnic minorities and the like and let blacks decide whether NOBODY uses the word nigger or whether its used by all and the context its used in becomes relevant

Had it been a black person saying it there wouldnt have been a reaction at all, that IS however its dressed up racism

And yet isnt racism supposed to be a bad thing and equality a good one?

‘COULD’ being the operative term. ‘WOULD’ however, is something entirely different.

After what I saw on a video ‘someone’ downloaded, I think I’ve seen all I’d ever want to see…

Spltting hairs is all we can do here though. Whichever way you look at it, there’s always a different yet valid way of countering it – there is no way of saying ‘what’s the big deal?’ or ‘she really shouldn’t have said that’ without a backlash of ‘why, exactly?’

My understanding, from a young age, is that it’s a racist term. My understanding now is that it’s socially acceptable in sections of the black community yet still deemed a taboo word by others. So how can you tackle the root when it’s unclear what the root is? Is the use of the word itself the issue or is it how it gets used and by whom?

Its why the media go on about the beckhams, because the beckhams have made themselves look glamourised, sexy, nice to look at. The general public have stressfull lives, they wana see and hear something that looks good even if it aint good. Thats why it was nice to see AliG make them look stupid, you could see david winsing and wishing he wasn’t there, because the becks have nothing worthwhile to say.

Blairs mob picked up on this image thing 12 years ago, now the conservatives have follwed, doesn’t matter about policy, its image, image, image.

Mind numbing, spirit crushing brain dead nonsense = zombie nation.

    Will the public demand change???

    Would it make any difference?

I could understand it a bit more if it was a hugely significant case (murder, child abuse etc. Which A-listers get away with anyway) with far reaching consequences but it’s as far removed from that as possible.

Sadly you’re right, folk would rather know what Paris Hilton or someone else famous for being famous is up to than hear about what used to be known as ‘real’ news. You know – trivial things like fatal accidents, soldiers being killed etc.

I don’t use the term spastic to describe other disabled people cos I know how hurtful it is to be bullied by people who don’t know any better. It doesn’t bother me now cos I had to learn to rise above it and that’s my way of dealing with it, either that or allow myself to be dragged down by people I considered ignorant (bullies) Note – I am not accusing anyone on BB of bullying before somebody thinks I’m starting a whole new topic. I’m just pointing out that the fact that they thought it was fun regardless of what anybody else thought.

And even if she is hearing the term used by blacks frequently, well so what? Doesn’t that make her stupid and naive? Charlie and Nicki aren’t those same people. What’s good for the goose isn’t always good for the gander.

Anyway, it seems now she has a history of it. Didn’t matter so much a week ago apparently…

Monkey see, monkey do – in other words ‘because I saw someone else do it, it must mean that I can do it’ Never mind the fact that what you’ve seen the other person do might not be seen as acceptable. Isn’t that showing ignorance to the situation? I can see both sides to the arguement – my personal experiences as being ‘different’ in the eyes of some give me the perspective of the minority group, if you want to call it that.

Flip side – I went on a diversity awareness course a few years ago and what did I learn? Not a damn thing, other than ‘watch you don’t go upsetting anybody who isn’t a white, hetrosexual male’ I thought we were supposed to be learning diversity? Seems to me we’re being told to treat people differently.

    I don’t condone it

You dont condone the freedom to speak, when what is said is not meant to intentionally offend, and doesn’t offend?

Freedom to speak is fair enough. It’s the ignorance to the fact that these things are a sensitive issue I don’t condone. For instance, I’m registered disabled (even though there isn’t much of a problem) I’ve been called spastic before and I’m not too bothered cos it’s a remark born out of ignorance but that doesn’t mean I have to happily accept it.
