Exactly BM, there’s countless reasons why the premiership is a stronger league than the SPL but I think under the circumstances our teams do pretty well for themselves. What I do find strange is that now that the Old Firm aren’t spending on the same level they used to, they’re actually performing better in europe recently than they have done for a while.
Let’s not forget either that getting relegated from the premiership is far more financially lucrative than winning the SPL and getting a crack at the Champions League. Got to agree about that Celtic side who reached the UEFA Cup final, that was a helluva strong team who got there on merit. Whereas Rangers have really made a pig’s a**e out of just about every game they’ve played so it just further proves your point that all you need sometimes is for luck to be on your side.

8 April, 2008 at 1:30 pm #324292An Old Firm team?! From a financial point of view, I can see the benefits but back on planet earth there’s no chance in hell  Some Old Firm fans get on well, I have a lot of mates who are Celtic fans and there’s a bit of banter but that’s about as extreme as it gets. Afraid it’s not the same for everyone. Also, why are folk always calling the SPL ‘easy’? Before the obvious, predictable responses from the obvious people, here’s my thinking:
The SPL has 12 teams, you know it’s a two horse race for the title, relegation’s pretty much decided before the season even starts which just leaves the UEFA Cup spots.
The premiership is a 20 team league, all the talk is of the ‘big four’ but realistically it’ll be between two or three teams for the title, you have a rough idea who’s going to be relegated which just leaves the UEFA Cup spots.
It’s a stronger league but is it really any more difficult for the big boys to win it than it is for Rangers or Celtic to win theirs?

7 April, 2008 at 10:37 pm #298045Director Commentaries. Why can’t the Family Guy creators do what the South Park guys do and have commentary minis instead of expecting you to sit through the entire episode again?
Think I’ll do without.
