Sad and sorrowful, but i dont like the vocals i love classical music passionately but Operatic really doesnt do it for me.
*Awaits the fate of Carmen :)

I love choral works… opera is a bit heavy duty for me in some ways, but I always try to remember that in the majority of cases all the voices are used as instruments by the composer and overlayed and twisted through the orchestral sounds.

Oh bloody hell …. that really was an entry for pseuds corner!

The one always reminds me of last night of the Proms.

Loving this thread :D keep em coming

I was taught how to make sure you played the right amount of notes by singing…..go and wash your knickers in the bath, in the bath in the bath, oh go and wash your knickers in the bath in the bath in the bath

it worked most of the time :)

Only an aumaton would remain unmoved by both the Beethoven and the Gorecki, or fail to weep lengthily at the latter.

agreed on both counts… I hadn’t heard the Gorecki before, sorrowful indeed.

And can’t leave out my favourite bit from Mozart’s Requiem Mass:

Firstly.. a link to mozart and salieri writing the Confutatis part (which I love) from the film Amadeus. Salieri was jealous of Mozart, but loved his work….he helped Mozart write it all down as Mozart was dying….a cruel irony of fate.

    Confutatis

then a good recording of it

    Confutatis Maledictis

    Passionate stuff.

whilst on favourites….. got to share this one

    Albinoni’s Adagio in G Minor

I did find some stuffed shirts waving sticks around, but thought this was more serene as a backdrop to the sound.

    Carmena Burana

Not sure about the associated video, but it was the best recording I could find on Youtube. Have loved this since I was about 5 years old. Its by a guy called Carl Orf and is early last century although it is all sung in Latin. Its very ribald actually, if you read the translation. This particular bit has been used in loads of films and adverts. I think it was in Excaliber with Sean Connery in it. Lovely shot of them all riding through an apple orchard to this, very evocative.
