She looked pretty frail actually, so not sure if she could have walloped someone properly!
Watching the Verve now… good stuff.
Other stuff I’ve enjoyed… the Editors, Massive, Duffy, Futureheads….. didn’t see nearly enough though :(

If its anything like Tea in park,,the tickets for next year go on sale tomorrow ! ya should make a date with yourself to DO something about it,get the tickets ,then arrange for your zoo to be looked after. even the laddies would love it,as there are loads for them too at such events. Or better still, leave the laddies with DAve and we will all go :) hehe x
You have to register in advance for Glasto and then the tickets usually go on sale in ? Feb.
Shaz its great for kids, but they usually enjoy it more if they are a bit older, say 12 and up. But there is a circus tent, and a family field with guards and floodlights, and well, loads of people take children of all ages. They get tired and grumpy towards the end sometimes, particularly if its raining and cold, but there is masses for them to do and see.
I think you don’t pay for children until they are 13 at Glastonbury. Don’t know how old your children are, but that might swing it for you.

Control of the streets was lost a long time ago, and so was any degree of effective policing. The deterrents are quite simply a joke, and made worse by the ridiculous over-riding respect for the rights of criminals, at the expense of any moral social imperative for the larger community involved. Government policies seem almost to guarantee more crime, but these are presented to an electorate that only reflects the minority anyway. Nobody is impressed by the reassuring soundbites coming from whoever is the latest incumbent in the Home Office. Murders will continue to be commited by children.
It can be sorted out, but that would need real political will from the very top of a party looking for election in what would be five or six years from now. But don’t hold your breath. I’d give a lot not to sound so cynical but realise that to gain the power required the party involved has to make so many deals on the way, and then sell its ideas to that minority we call an electorate, that any firm resolve is inevitably watered down in a welter of compromise.
Would ten-year terms of power be the answer ? And would that mobilise the necessary opinion that already exists ?
I agree about the control on the streets having been lost many years ago. How many people live in town where there are no go areas for police? If the police refuse to go into certain areas violent crime amongst teenagers will not be quashed. And if they weren’t carrying knives it would be something else. Gangs of violent youths is not a new thing, but it was kept under control in the past (just). The money is being spent in the wrong areas, or not at all.
I don’t think ten year terms would be the answer, it would just create a lax attitude by the incumbent government, nothing would be achieved until shortly before their term was up as they try to generate votes again. Maybe the answer is to insist that certain things like the health service, education and policing, are all managed by joint political teams to achieve some form of continuity.
I do have a jaundiced view though.
P.S. fancy a banana?30 June, 2008 at 5:11 pm #350382Are you allowed to insult yourself?

At the record company meeting
On their hands – a dead star
And oh, the plans they weave
And oh, the sickening greedAt the record company party
On their hands – a dead star
The sycophantic slags all say :
“I knew him first, and I knew him well”Re-issue ! Re-package ! Re-package !
Re-evaluate the songs
Double-pack with a photograph
Extra Track (and a tacky badge)A-list, playlist
“Please them , please them !”
“Please them !”
(sadly, THIS was your life)But you could have said no
If you’d wanted to
You could have said no
If you’d wanted toBPI, MTV, BBC
“Please them ! Please them !”
(sadly this was your life)But you could have said no
If you’d wanted to
You could have walked away
…Couldn’t you ?I touched you at the soundcheck
You had no real way of knowing
In my heart I begged “Take me with you …
I don’t care where you’re going…”But to you I was faceless
I was fawning, I was boring
Just a child from those ugly new houses
Who could never begin to knowWho could never really know
Oh …Best of ! Most of !
Satiate the need
Slip them into different sleeves !
Buy both, and feel deceivedClimber – new entry, re-entry
World tour ! (“media whore”)
“Please the Press in Belgium !”
(THIS was your life…)And when it fails to recoup ?
Well, maybe :
You just haven’t earned it yet, babyI walked a pace behind you at the soundcheck
You’re just the same as I am
What makes most people feel happy
Leads us headlong into harmSo, in my bedroom in those ‘ugly new houses’
I danced my legs down to the knees
But me and my ‘true love’
Will never meet again …At the record company meeting
On their hands – at last ! – a dead star !
But they can never taint you in my eyes
No, they can never touch you nowNo, they cannot hurt you, my darling
They cannot touch you now
But me and my ‘true love’
Will never meet again -
