Perhaps we should re-educate ourselves to compliment more natural appearances and to demonstrate the value of the things that really matter – kindness, generosity, humour and wisdom.

    Can’t argue with that.

I havn’t opened the link on the story I don’t know if this area is covered….if it is and I’m wrong then it serves me right for not reading it
I for one know I can be quite shy meeting new people, and have hang ups about my body and looks….and yes I know we should all accept who we are and how we are and if others don’t like it well then it’s their problem but most women (not all I know) wear makeup … I know I have to else I will scare people…thats not me being natural to my looks and my hair is greying terribly..infact if I didn’t colour it I probably would be grey all over…as I have had greys from the age of 14

I agree though this case is ridiculous and obviously there must be other issues which have lead to such pettiness

Hey – I’ve been grey since my teens as well – nothing you can do about it. The Lord giveth and so on.

Thank God we aren’t all plastic Hollywood copies, although we kinda compare ourselves to them. Strange how people find other people who are attracted to them, despite all their perceived flaws. Aint the world a fine place?

Anyway Kenty, you have deceived us. You never told us you colour your hair. Expect the law suit by tomorrow!

Maybe if society was not so fixated on looks and image, people would believe it when they were told that being a beautiful person was more important than good looks.

I find people more attractive if I like them as people, so what’s inside affects how I see their external appearance. This works in reverse as well. As a consequence I can never quiet get the being attracted to celebrities bit, as I don’t know them as people.

Sadly I think we all have a touch of double standards here. We all have “looks” we like better than others, even if we do not judge people.

Hopefully however that doesn’t make us treat people badly, and in this case, turn on our own wife and daughter, whatever the deceptions in the first place.

It says a huge amount about the man and their relationship that he couldn’t find a way of understanding his wife’s dilemma in a judgemental word. Or perhaps as Wordy suggests, how you bait your hook determines which fish you catch.

    And what about their daughter?

All very sad, but not really what people should be dragging through the courts.

So he “loved” her purely for her looks…that’s not what I call love.

    It would seem so.

Wouldn’t it have been nicer if he had fallen in loved with her and loved her looks cos he loved her?

Even better he won his case despite being so shallow (not to say that she was not a bit looks obsessed, spending £100,000 on plastic surgery).

It puts a lil warm glow in yer heart, don’t it?

Although it has not been the main thrust of my posts, I agree entirely with the points you make, Scep, about “a repressive hypocrisy towards teenagers”, and I share your concerns about the agenda of the people pursuing the witch-hunt.

The black and white portrayals of the evil abusers, and seeking the ultimate sanctions against those held to be to blame, fits an anti-permissive agenda perfectly. Real life is far more complex. We can’t solve any of this by being a less overtly sexual society, and disappearing into a fantasy of purity where children can lead their innocent lives without molestation. Children are sexual beings, who are injured by the assault and betrayal which abuse brings, rather than pure flowers tainted by sexuality. Equally teenagers are not unsullied creatures incapable of lies or false accusations. These realities are difficult and uncomfortable for some people.

That is why a call for a more rounded understanding of all the complex issues is better than trying to “burn the evil out”. It is less comfortable for sure, but we might that way make something of what has become a cringe-worthy circus show.

Over optimistic maybe but you’ve got to try.

I’ve spent the best part of 12 years arguing against anti-English racist extremist liberals who want to see the genocide of white northern Europeans, to be honest it’s grown rather tiresome, they’ve been brainwashed beyond repair by the political elite so I’ve come to learn there’s no use reading or putting forward any arguments. They’ve hit the self-destruct button and made their minds up. Well, had their minds made up for them.

That is a bit extreme, especially if you are implying it refers to anyone on the Boards.

There are certainly different points of view here, but I don’t think anyone wants to see any form of “genocide”.

I enjoy a bit of debate and I hope no harm is caused in the process. I know some people find the “serious” stuff pointless and don’t come on here for that, but we can all choose which conversations we participate in.

Hope you find the right balance for you. Happy posting!

Do you really think that I am an “anti-English racist extremist liberal who wants to see the genocide of white northern Europeans”?

I quite like the English, even though I’m a Scot by birth and ancestry.
