I remember some years back, when we had the old software, there were suggestions to make the 40’s room registered members only, to make chat fun again etc. Trouble is,all the ‘action’ ,juciy gossip and blazing great rows, happened in the lobby,so by comparison ,40’s was boring, and people stayed in the lobby.

yes jane I remember that too, however it would stop the people who complain about everyone a lot ( but never ignore anyone) …  so instead of stopping the ‘nice’ guests coming in say to the ones who complain about all guests ” there’s a room you can go to that guests can’t access”  ….  I wonder how many would tho lol,  scared of missing something perhaps …. I wonder if Hugs will go sit in there ……. just a thought… ;-)

Gerry, we do get some very dedicated students who turn out to be excellent nurses, you can spot them a mile away, but have to say its a pretty mixed bag of students, yes some are from more privileged background’s but far from all, the problem is they see it as a 3 year course with a guaranteed job at the end of it, not as a vocation etc…

Lol  Well there you go you see Gez, in my line of work its the opposite, experience stands for everything and we get fresh out of Uni student nurses, who are completely wet behind the ears , they have done 3 years of classes, the 1st YEAR almost solely consists of team building and statistics, then arrive on a ward where they think giving someone a wash is beneath them ! Peoples lives depend on these people and if they get it wrong and , trust me, many do, it can have consequences. So give me a nurse who has started at the bottom and can put years of experience into some vastly differing situations over a ‘graduate’ to whom it is just a job and thinks because they ‘passed’ a pretty low key exam that most 16 year olds could do, they are entitled to call themselves qualified and trained. When they ‘hit’ the ward the training really begins    B-)

Sorry  completely disagree, obviously you cant compare a 40 year old with mental health issues who has never had a job etc with a uni graduate who has become a high flying lawyer and has travelled the world, sorry I assumed, because it is a broad based discussion, we were talking ‘in general terms’  ie: like for like …..  a graduate 30 years ago compared to a graduate now, a bin man 30 years ago compared to a refuse disposal expert now ….

I don’t think anyone jumped on Dixies back because of her age, I think people just don’t like being talked down to, as if none of us have ever heard those cheesy quotes before ?  really? Forum 3 is generally an over 40’s forum and although I have no problem with anyone’s age who wishes to contribute I don’t particularly like being told ‘how to suck eggs’ by someone who’s younger than some of my tea towels, I could be wrong but I think people get pissed off with the assumption that ‘we know nothing’. No offence to Dixie, maybe a younger forum would suit her style of chat more, having said that at least she is contributing some different topics, but nobody can expect everyone to always agree with them ….. can they …..

So yes I see your point that for example not all 40 year olds have twice as much experience as a 20 year old, but in general, ie: most cases, in my opinion they probably do

Gez, my point has nothing to do with Dixie , sorry I was under the impression we were having a general discussion on Life Experiences. I’m not discussing Politics either. My point is that it doesn’t matter when you were born etc etc,  One person cannot say that the pressure next doors lad is under now is any worse than a student 30 years ago as its all relevant to the time we lived in. In the same way that nobody can say one mans pain is worse than another mans pain. Its, in my opinion, not measurable. Yes in some ways there is more pressure, as in its harder to buy a house now, in other ways its a much more affluent society, they all have smart phones and laptops as standard etc etc. Its impossible to compare and decide as you cant put someone in a time machine and then ask them which is harder ? It can only be measured in real time. My point really is one of mathematics as much as anything. A 2 year old child has twice as much experience of the world around it than a 1 year old child, be that today , 30 years ago or 100 years ago. So whether you work on a rubbish tip in Rio, are an Oxford graduate, now or 50 years ago, the longer you have experienced the ” world you live in at that time” the more ‘Life Experience ‘ you have !

Nope,    not sure I agree there Gez  .My point was, sorta,,, the longer you have worked on a rubbish dump in Rio, the more experience of it you have, maybe the better knowledge you have gleaned as to, maybe, what time of day is best, what areas are best etc. I’m not saying that someone young may not have perhaps, seen more of the world, travelled maybe, than someone older, my point is what ever your walk in life, the longer you have done it the more knowledge you have of it, more experience of it. So I guess in my own way I am saying longevity does count as far as experience goes.. ….. I think ……

surely all experiences are relevant to the life you live, wherever that may be ?

No offence to Dixie, I am sure she is a confident, bright, smart young woman and I do not mean to sound patronising, but I am far too long in the tooth to be given ‘life lessons’ of the kind you find in trinket shops and greeting cards, heard them all before many many many times…..  one life lesson I do believe in is ‘ what goes around comes around’ and the many ways you can interpret it….
