People are reluctant/afraid to get involved nowadays. Preferring to walk on by seems to be the norm.

We’ve lost all notion of society, and it’s a very sorry state of affairs.

I think that you’re dead on right there Owen. Also maybe Iran wouldn’t be sending its ”fighters” into Iraq to attack the Iraquis if Saddam was still in power so there would be a lot less ‘sectarian’ trouble.

In the Arab’Moslem world, Iraq was a extremely liberal society. Women allowed to wear western clothes etc.
Was this the reason the US chose them as the 9/11 scapegoats? If it was it’s backfired on them (and the UK) big time!

Out of sheer curiousity, I wonder what would have happened if we re-wrote history and the UN (US + UK + others) didn’t invade Iraq. Saddam Hussein was still in power and so on.

What actual difference(s) would we see now?? Leave to one side the numbers of our own forces that have been killed – I was thinking more of the geo-political situation.

    Any guesses anybody?

Iraq was a counterbalance to Iran. Perhaps Iran would not now be escalating its nuclear capability had Saddam Hussein still been in power.

Food heaven = vegetarian curry (as long as potatoes are in it), chili sin carne.
Most dishes without meat, apart from mousakka. Smoked haddock. Green olives
    stuffed with pimento.

Food hell = Celery, aubergine and courgette.

It is the Hiroshima Peace Memorial.

The 6 August 1945 nuclear explosion was almost directly above the building (the hypocenter was 150 meters / 490 feet away), and it was the closest structure to withstand the explosion. The building has been preserved in the same state as immediately after the bombing, and now serves as the reminder of nuclear devastation and as a symbol of hope for world peace and elimination of all nuclear weapons.
