Thank you for that panda.. and my apologies. you posted your “explanation” whilst I was posing my question.
Synchronicity at it’s best. Now, tell me, did you find Tel’s post to be racist at all?
I don’t think it has anything to do with synchronicity. I posted my “explanation” @ 9.09 am, your question was 9.28 am – perhaps you never bothered to read page 11.
Well of course I found Terry’s post racist – Teapot said so didn’t she?

Panda if you want to start a new thread on that go ahead…. but dont ruin threads with your silly racist remarks… there is only one person here has race issues … thats you, Terry’s remarks were based on sound economic fact… all you do is try to make racist argument where there are none..
I know Im playing into your hands posting this… well so be it… had to be said
Well, how did I find Terry’s post? Rather naive and simplistic, but according to Teapot, it’s “sound economic fact” to blame Polish people.

Ty Words for sorting a few things out. Quite surprised at Pepper though. In fact I barely commented on this thread but seemed to have drawn a lot of attention. Shame people can’t read back and see that it was Terry that bought up the whole idea of immigration – and Pepper it was not in his original post and I never said it was.
Good morning panda :)
I can’t for the life of me see how anything I’ve posted here is in any way surprising?
Maybe it’s the frequency of my visits here this last day or two that is so shocking? Well, we can chalk that down to a form of cabin fever (manflu you see, awful thing). As for “sorting a few things out”, well, I’m afraid I’ve either completely lost the plot or nothing could be further from the truth.
I guess when it all boils down to it, all I’m asking for is a few answers to a few questions.. and maybe some subsequent clarification if needed? Because at this stage I’m mighty confused.
Please, tell me if you could, was this post…

.. A direct retort to this initial immigration post from Terry?

The Poles have sent home – according to a national statistics survey – £23 billion in the last seven years. It’s money our economy cannot afford to lose. It’s basic economic madness for this country to allow east Europeans to work here in the numbers they do.
Yes Pepper, my explanation is on page 11. Do keep up.

The dynamics of this country have dramatically changed over the past 5 years or so…more so than they did when West Indian and Asian families started coming over here….my parents came over in the late 50s…..
is it because the influx from europe is heavier? Asians also sent money back “home” so that when they go back their lives would be even more comfortable….my parents told me and so did many of my family that they had every intention of returning. Then along came the children….we started school….our parents felt they couldn’t rip us away from our birth country, and live in a country so different to England….
Personally I think the many many Asians I know have integrated well into society…maybe others think differently…..We have jobs..businesses…..
Won’t this be the case with the Easten Europeans in a few years time? The same could be said for me with a Jamican father.
And perhaps East Europeans will be fully accepted into this country in 30 years time or so.
But right now, they are in the spotlight, the scapegoats, “coming over here, taking all our jobs and housing, blah blah blah.”
If I had a pound for every time I heard that…
I would also like to add, Polish people coming to live and work in this country is nothing new – in fact it could be argued that without polish airmen in the RAF during WW2, then we might not have won the Battle of Britain.
6 May, 2012 at 9:09 am #495447Just for Pepper as he seems somewhat confused.
Terry posted this:

In response, I posted this:
Just love the way that somebody has to bring immigrants into it. Typical.
Why? Because in my experience, I knew it was only matter of time before someone started to blame immigrants. The original post from Kenty did not mention immigrants or the EU but focused on a lack of affordable housing and teen pregnancies.
Terry decided to bring immigration and the EU into the debate.
I hope I’ve clarified that for you Pepper – no need to perplex your brain anymore over it. I would say I’m rather flattered by all your attention, but I’m more confused by it, and in particular, your references to the rolling eyes icon. I guess I can explain the rolling eyes to mean, “oh God! Here we go again, blame the immigrants for al our social ills.”

5 May, 2012 at 11:58 pm #495429I think we all know that once a debate is started on the dire economic situation in this country then someone will typically bring up immigration as a cause. It was only a matter of time and Terry so obliged. The only difference between now and the 1980s recession is the ethnic group being blamed. What’s changed? Why aren’t the blacks and the Asians being blamed anymore for coming over here and taking all the jobs? After all the National Front blamed them.
30 years later Terry wants to blame the Europeans and the Poles in particular.

Her comment was “Just love the way that somebody has to bring immigrants into it. Typical.” with the eye rolling symbol. She didn’t describe it as racist, in fact someone else associated the views with the far right and neo-nazism, but they’ve not been described as playing a race card. Neither did she claim any special treatment or try to close down debate as some others have, so I can’t see how she was the one playing a card, even one dealt by another.
Ty Words. :P

As the thread was about the future of future generations compared to previous ones, I thought introducing eastern European immigration into the UK as a major factor was a bit incongruous as the problems existed prior to EU expansion and beyond the UKs boundaries.

5 May, 2012 at 9:15 pm #495395It’s a well known fact that in times of economic hardship, high unemployment etc, certain sections of society turn on ethnic groups and use them as a scapegoat and blame them.
Hitler and the Jews spring to mind…
And in this debate, it was only a matter of time before Terry chose an ethnic group in this country to blame. But I’m in the wrong for commenting on it.

Why was Panda considered racist in voicing her opinion that the way immigration was introduced in this thread was itself racist?
Dunno Words. Best ask Teapot but I don’t think she knows herself and refuses to explain.
As I said before I’ve heard this all before as my dad was a Jamaican immigrant. Just seems the racial group has changed to being East Europeans.
