Really, it’s no bother. I’m glad you’re not being too grumpy. For a moment I feared the stress and strain might bring on one of your ‘attacks’. One of your little characters would then have had to have visited us and told us all how brave you had been and how if it wasn’t for naughty Pikey you probably would have made it but, in the end, you’d lost your heroic struggle – quoting bittersweet poetry to the end.

Imagine how upset I would’ve been.

No you didn’t. Quite true. I take it back. It’s just you and plagiarism are forever entwined in my appreciation. I think it’s because for months every time you pretended to write something original my checking software would go mental. It has to be said, though, that you’ve been a lot better recently. You don’t even bother to pretend to write anything original much anymore.

And you’re quite right, Cath. I’ve been very naughty again and I must try harder.

I should quote a poem, really, considering where we are:

O ’tis a lovely thing for youth
    To early walk in wisdom’s way;
To fear a lie, to speak the truth,
That we may trust to all they say!

But liars we can never trust,
Even when they say what is true.
And he who does one fault at first
And lies to hide it, makes it two.

Have we not known, nor heard, nor read
How God does hate deceit and wrong?
    How Ananias was struck dead,
Caught with a lie upon his tongue?

So did his wife Sapphira die,
When she came in, and grew so bold
As to confirm that wicked lie,
Which just before her husband told.

The Lord delights in them that speak
The words of truth; but every liar
Must have his portion in the lake
That burns with brimstone and with fire.

Ha! Held up for plagiarism and being pretentious by the Esme! Priceless. That’s like an accusation levelled at you by Bin Laden about being a bit over the top with your religion and politics.

    Genius.

It hardly needs to be said, does it? I’m shocked. She wants martinis for that job.

It wasn’t the Tina chick off the cover of Edwyn Collins’s annoyingly popular tune, was it? JH Lynch painted it as well as a few similar ones:

You’d need a lot more paper mache, scissors and pritt sticks to really capture the 3 yr old napalm victim, armless Rwandan, or weeping Iraqi mother now wouldn’t you ?

Are you saying no doing war in model making as the media isn’t up to depicting the truly abominable nature of it all? What an interesting thought. Almost like a sanctification and subsequent ban on idolatry. I like it. I have to say, though, I thought the last model was quite powerfully horrific:

Then I’ll consider the point proven. I must pop the kettle on.

It is true, though. You have to admit. She is more likely to go down the ‘wee shovel’ route than spadey pebbs, as I like to call her.

I’m going to go with a yes. Yes. She’s much better than you, for example. You seem more of a ‘wee shovel’ sort of person. I think Pebble’s more likely to say ‘spade’.
