well if you wont need a pat on the back Sian, you’ll get all the reward you need by doing it, and a sense of worth.
well done, the world needs more of ya x

Next time I go to reply to something but stop midway, could the management at least wait until I have made my cup of tea before removing said user and threads and making me think I have lost my faculties.
Thank you x

11 September, 2008 at 9:31 pm #370618there’s a few different discussions going on here… love of Amy, hatred of Amy, tarring ALL abusers/addicts with the same brush.
As Sian said, no matter WHAT they are or WHERE they come from they are still suffering, and thank god there are people out there who do not pre-judge addicts who come from all walks of life otherwise charities and help would be non-existant and THEN we would have a MAJOR problem.
Ive been watching a few programs over the last few weeks about charity workers who give their spare time up to help people who have problems, whether it be through drugs, drink, or homelessness or even a combination of the three, and the fact these people who help do NOT pre-judge people and hold prejudices is bloody amazing, and these people are the backbone of our society. Take away the fame aspect and I still would imagine those like Amy etc would still be hooked on something as its in the genes… its just a whole lot easier to get the drugs than it is to get the help.
I hope those who are judging now dont ever need charity or help and face someone with the same prejudices that they hold, as all they will get is a finger waved in their faces and may regret holding the views that they do.
Life can change very very quickly, something we should all be aware of whilst we sit in our warm houses with our happy families.
11 September, 2008 at 6:11 pm #370568we all have different coping mechanisms. Some people infact most at some point have their lives turn on their heads (as john said), but thankfully dont turn to substances as a comfort.
Then there are others who for no other reason than curiosity, or to please a crowd will try something and start down the rocky road to decline that way.
We are all different, and need to respect that.
Tolerance and compassion innit, and a better support system for those so that when they choose to seek help it is there long term.
Far too many re-habs are underfunded and people are left with no aftercare or support network. So starts the vicious cycle again.
I do know plenty of herion addicts, some with support and some without. You could not draw any comparisons between them, upbringing or otherwise… only the love of the drug.

Drink kills more people that any other drug in the world yet most of us drink, it slips up and bites you hard, my close friend who was a social worker and had everything going for her is now a raving alchy, she only used to have a few glasses of wine a week but after the trauma she had in her life she realised those few glasses of wine nulled the pain and it became excessive, now her life is ruined, I can’t understand how people cannot sympathise with that.
People must have swinging bricks in place of a heart.
