I just think when we are getting the “respect the ref” campaign thrust down our throats not only in the premiership but also at grass roots (my sons team and all their league have all received newsletters publicising it) its a bit ironic that already a red card has been overturned as well as the matters pointed out in this thread and we are only a bit into the season!
Its a disgrace!
I agree with you shaz.
Referees will always earn respect by their decisions. There are good refs and bad refs.
The fact that we are having a “respect the ref” campaign says to me that the bad refs are making too many wrong decisions.I remember one particular incident in a game between Sheff Utd and Liverpool.
Steven Gerrard was awarded a penalty by the ref – not because he was fouled but because he thought a defender intended to foul him.A totally ridiculous decision.
It’s no wonder the poorer referees (and there are plenty of them) aren’t respected.Referees need to be more consistant with their decisions.
The referee at my son’s game today was excellent and I went and told him so after the game.21 September, 2008 at 9:59 pm #37372321 September, 2008 at 9:51 pm #37372221 September, 2008 at 9:23 pm #373674@sharongooner wrote:
What on earth is he on today?!
He is a disgrace to referees, seriously!
shaz you make it sound as if he’s normally a good referee.
He’s not.
I remember him refereeing a game between Leicester and Wolves about five years ago and he was a disgrace then too.
The phone in on Radio Leicester after the game wasn’t about football (which it should have been) – it was about whether or not Reilly was competent to referee at the top level ever again.
We need to start employing foreign referees.
People will say “no” to the idea but we have foreign managers and foreign players too.
English referee are not the best in the world.
Far from it.
Liverpool were denied a win yesterday because of a poor refereeing decision.
When will football change? And for the better.21 September, 2008 at 7:01 pm #373455@prettypink wrote:

Having said that, my apologies to the wonderful Dawny because my presence on this JC site is obviously upsetting her.21 September, 2008 at 6:39 pm #373453@*Dawny* wrote:

Question
If the dog is barking at the back door and Dawny is yelling at the front door, who do you let in first?
The dog, of course. He’ll shut up once you let him in. -
