I think Tinsel who started the post is now scraping the barrel looking for dumb things to post. She’s the type that probably thinks a swastika is a pretty pattern and the Ku klux klan is a new must have fashion. I knew by her putting up the original post she is dumb and a racist and that goes for the moron who sent me that message hiding under a different name. I am happy to say I have had lots of messages agreeing with me.

Actually Defendant get your facts right! The doll was created by Florence Kate Upton an American- born engish cartoonist . Enid Blyton born 25 years after Florence Upton chose to depict golliwogs in a number of her stories as rude and untrustworthy or stupid. Other authors took a similar tack. The name “golliwog” came to be used as a degrading term for anyone who wasn’t white-skinned, and new origins were suggested for the word. Florence Upton despaired, ‘I am frightened when I read the fearsome etymology some deep, dark minds can see in his name and she was right! This ubiquitous reclamation of the golliwog is neither fun nor nostalgic. It is less an ironic nod to our racist past than a stark reminder of our racist present. Some people are stupid as well as racist

These harmless toys for white children fully dehumanise black people to such an extent that someone such as Carol Thatcher would, in 2009, refer to a black trnnis player as a golliwog. It wasn’t till that year that Hamley’s banned them. By 2011, Bill Etherbridge, a prospective Tory councillor,was thrown out of the party for posing as a golliwog on face book. He promptly joined Ukip and recently stood in the leadership contest. He said he was merely trying to stimulate “healthy debate”. Right. He has also written a book celebrating golliwogs called. Britain- a post political correctness society
This is exactly how these wretched things ended up back in the shops. Two things have been going on, the ongoing lie that political correctness (basically, manners) has gone so mad that an open display of racism brands itself somehow as an exercise of freedom. Such people always hark back to a time of “innocence”. That innocence is now called white privilege.

Its what the doll represents , like I said white people just don’t get it. And yes, I think by posting this you are a racist, I did state this in my previous reply Are you not reading what I am typing?
Let’s get one thing clear from the off: the term golliwog is offensive. Whether you use it public, in private, on air, or in the green room, no one in their right mind can not be aware that this is a derogatory term to describe black people. I do not care whether or not it was considered racist when it first appeared in 1873, a fact which is pretty weak as arguments go, I wonder how many black people do you think were asked about it then?
The fact that so many white commentators have deigned to tell me they don’t find the term offensive only makes matters worse. I’m not saying you have to be black to have a point of view on this, but you certainly have to be black to have ever been called a golliwog, so when a white person tells me he doesn’t see what the problem is, well, am I really expected to take him seriously? Nor am I particularly surprised that these dolls are still on sale, or that people are still stupid enough to buy them. But unless you have been spat at, kicked or had eggs thrown at you, all while being called that hateful term, it is unlikely you will ever understand why a small doll causes such a big fuss!! And putting a post up about them does that make you racist? you knew when you put the post up what these dolls represent.
Somethings just are racist. Like the N word, and these dolls. Your disregard for the people affected by perpetuating a racist trope is what makes you a racist.
This is like saying people who like the Ku Klux Klan robes and swastikas are into textiles and symbology? If you can’t acknowledge the racist history of these items you are committing a racist act. If you’re not willing to do that,you are choosing racism. This stereotyped Golly character is really offensive to some ,as would be a Hitler doll,a yellow Asian one with buck teeth, or an Arab one with a vest bomb. People should grow up and stop playing with racist dolls.
Ps, Hartleys jam is much nicer and doesn’t need a golly to promote sales.
